Sparta alsohas a lot of drugs and diseases (STDs) in the schools. There is a high pregnancy rate in young girls.
If I could pick a place around here to live in I would pick West Salem, LaCrosse, or Onalaska. They have high property taxes and expensive homes but the neighborhoods are really nice to live in.
Just curious, I am in the process of buying in Sparta. From what I have experienced its seems to be a great place. As far as high drug rate, I feel wherever you go it is high. Is there anything else that you don't like about it. How long have you lived there? I am trying to gather as much info as possible about it. Also if you are going to sell let me know. I might know someone who would be interested in buying.

Default I'm Gonna Be An Import, Too

Seems it's all relative to me. As a third generation Southern Californian, I have seen changes none of you could relate to. A few Mexican-Americans in some people's neighborhoods really makes 'em go nuts. My wife and I are nearing retirement and have purchased property on Killarney Lake where we will build and spend half the year (the warmer half, of course). Which would you rather have living next to you-a native Southern Californian or a Mexican? LOL Answer-who cares as long as they are good people. What REALLY concerns my wife is not the people (her family are Bishops from Tomahawk) but the wolves-are they getting close to Killarney?

I have lived in Tomah all my life, 38 years. So I have had experience with Sparta and people living there, some are relatives. It really is not a nice town, have you driven thru it? The majority of the houses are OLD and unkept. LOT AND LOTS of rentals that are just not being taken care of, inside or outside. There was a recent shooting, bomb scare and stabbing all in the past couple of weeks. Yes, there are Mexicans moving in, unfortunately the majority are NOT law abiding. They are here to work for low wages at a place called Pine Valley Meats in a town called Norwalk, have very little or no education. I wish you would re consider moving there. If there is a nice neighborhood it must be well outside of town.

Bring your bicycles - sparta trail runs right through there. Nice bicycling area.

Also would there be another area you would reccomend to live and then commute to Tomah?
I will not be able to visit the area before accepting the job so any info will be greatly appreciated.
If your still looking I have a house for sale, two miles from Tomah, 4 bedroom tri level. Listed with Superior Realty.
