This was submitted by a friend of my boss. My heart goes out to everyone in WI. Hopefully they will be able to pick up the pieces and move on. The hard part is the most people probably don't have flood insurance so many of these homes are total losses with no insurance to cover them.
Thanks for the pictures, Josh! Really a shock the areas that are flooding and I was really surprised about Lake Delton. The Milwaukee area, too, unbelieveable. I can't imagine dealing with all that water.
Going to see my sister in Iowa all the time, I'm used to seeing floods near the Mississippi that happens alot, the Des Plaines in Illinois floods all the time but that is due to the excessive construction, not enough green area to soak up the water, lots of concrete.
I read about the little town of Gays Mills, just recovering from a flood, totally under again now they are saying this may be the end of the little town.
My heart goes out to the people that have to deal with all this.
I work at an auto auction about 40 acres right along the Baraboo River and alot of our vehicles have major flood damage. We had to move 250+ cars yesterday. It's so crazy. There is so much water around our building.
Moving cars around not a fun time even with good space. I worked for VW for 33 yrs. and know that water and cars, serious business especially with all the electronics today, not good.
I did a search for flooding so I could read more than what was in our local paper. Got a hit for a gov doc dated May 2008 about flood maps being very out dated needing to be redone, do you think???

It's just awful and I feel so badly for all the people who have lost their homes, or had significant damage from the water and sewage backing up into their homes. I can't imagine. We were so fortunate to find a home with a double foundation that is rock solid and after this past weekend, we are even more thankful.

Susan, Your right about the electronics. We have tons of fleet cars that are destroyed because of the waters. We had to cancel this weeks auction.
We're in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and I think the state is going to float away within the next few days. It's insane. They had a major flood in 1993 and this is already worse. So many mandatory evacuations and they started some here in CR. We are a little higher up and if the it floods by our street then it will be bad. We are close to the Cedar River, but not close enough that it should flood us. More rain headed our way this afternoon and tomorrow. The rivers here have already crested higher then they did in 1993.
Wisconsin will always be home to us(we've only lived in Iowa for 4 years now, compared to our whole lives in Wisconsin)and our hearts ache for you guys. It's mind blowing really. I mean it's really bad here right now, but we can't stop thinking about you guys...STAY SAFE!
A month ago (5/6) I visited my sister (Tipton) and everything looked so nice! We were to Cornell to hear George Stephanopolous, went to Amana, bummed around. At that time portions of fields were wet and unable to be plowed.
I remember thinking neither western Wisc. or eastern Iowa needed anymore rain! Oddly enough we were very dry here by the lake but can't say that anymore, no floods but high rivers.
