I hear ya Sunflower. My parents always took me up north or out of state. I never went to the driftless area. Since I've gotten my license at 16, which was 3.8 years ago I've done alot of my own traveling. Visiting Spring Green, etc. I would like to hit up the Great River Road sometime.

I'm a contrast because I like cities but can be perfectly happy in a rustic cabin in the northwoods.
I have to get up to Door County I used to go, but haven't for many, many years and I'm wondering how it is now.
I really need to start exploring Wisconsin more, I'd really like to get up to the Bayfield area. My mom had relatives from there and I've never been.

I don't know if this qualifies, but one thing I always try to make it home for is Summerfest! I love camping at Devil's Lake, and the whole family can enjoy the Dells. We love Miller Park, too... gotta love anyplace where I can drink beer at noon and not be judged! LOL

I loved swimming at the beach between Washburn and Bayfield, when I lived there. I have fond memories of Applefest in Bayfield growing up. We stopped going after awhile because it was getting to big and crowded, but I went back every year I lived year and still loved it.
We would also canoe down the Brule to Lake Superior every year, and loved that.
But what I miss most is hiking all the trails around northern Wisconsin. I stomped over the North Country Trail all through Ashland County, and love hiking in the Blue Hills in Rusk County. I have friends who have always lived in big places--California, New Hampshire, etc. and I know they think I'm crazy for loving the northwoods so much, but there a is quiet beauty to the woods that the mountains can't give you. Because there aren't the huge, spectacular scenery, you focus on the small things--the way a ray of light hits the forest floor, the slow floating descent of a leaf, the shapes of snow drifts.

fairs!
I love the Northern WI State Fair in Chippewa Falls! Part of it is because that's my hometown and I remember falling asleep every night to whoever was singing on the bandstand and in the beer tents and all of the sounds that come from the fairs. I loved that I could hear it from like 3 miles away with my bedroom window open.
And the other part is that it's something that anyone of any age can enjoy it. During the day there's rides, games, fair food and music for everyone. Then at night everything lights up and the "beer tents" open up and there are great live bands and dancing. Awesome memories and I can't wait, it's almost fair time again this summer

I havve a granpappy in Miocqua, very nice city... but is there really an option as to the best tourist place? Do I hear a WISCONSIN DELLS? More waterparks than anywhere else, a gorgeous river with a view... Sure it's overpriced and overrated, and although the price can be forebidding, overrated doesn't make it bad.
