need Car Ferry info from MI to WI
Attending the National Button Society show in Appleton WI this August.
Is the Lake MI car ferry still in operation?
Sounds terrifying-but sure would eliminate a chunk of driving all around Lake MI..considering the price of gas, may be better choice too.
Any info-especially personal experiences would be appreciated.

I've taken this one several times, with my car:
Lake Express Car Ferry
I have not ever taken this one:
S.S. Badger Car Ferry

Thanks for responding, & w/links too.
W/Appleton WI as destination-From Grand Rapids area.
Any advantages to one ferry service over the other?
I see Lake Express would cross Muskegon to Milwaukee-
Badger crosses Ludington to Manitowoc-
Would the drive from Milwaukee up to Appleton be esp pleasant?

The Lake Express is faster, but the Badger lands you much further north. From the landing in Manitowoc, you can just hop on US 10 and it will take you right to Appleton (about an hours drive +/-).
The drive from Milwaukee isn't bad, but it would mean having to go thru/near downtown, which depending on when you're coming, could mean a few extra traffic headaches. The time you save by taking the Lake Express will be lost via the extra distance driving between Milwaukee & Appleton.

Lake Express is wonderful. The ships are immaculate and very comfortable, the crew wonderful. They donated passage for the corgi rescue I volunteer for. Both the human transporter and the dog got a free pass, plus they put the human in first class with free food and drinks! Here is the story of one little dog who made the crossing.
