My initial thought about the monitoring of merging onto highways was "oh neat, that's a good idea" and then after driving through the state for a month I realized it wouldn't surprise me if they installed those because no one knew how to merge correctly. And when the cars are merging, they cruise at about 30 mph forcing the cars in the right lane to break in order to let them in. I'd love to see what WI drivers think about MI drivers. I think they would die in our state- we are a bunch of speedy, rushed, fearless drivers...good luck merging onto a highway at 30 mph! =)

I'll be kind.....I think MI drivers are horrible too. No offense, of course.
Found a nifty little article that shows the ratings of drivers in all states. WI ranked #11, while MI ranked #17. Just sayin'

Ohhh, the sound of victory.lol I always try to stay even sided but I can see that this is an exception. I don't know why people come to the Wisconsin forum to complain about there ties to bad experiences in WI. etc.
Nice article.

I think there are bad drivers no matter where you go. I tend to focus on the MI & IL drivers because they make themselves known with their crazy driving...but there are still plenty of horrible WI drivers, too. I just don't agree with monroek5's assessment that WI drivers are slow-driving morons who don't know how to merge

You guys are funny....you wanted to know the stereotype and that is the general consensus among a lot of people I know. That's not to say that ALL WI drivers are bad or that even the majority are...it's the stereotype (and keep in mind most stereotypes are false). I think IL drivers are completely insane and I fear driving through Chicago. I think there are plenty of horrible MI drivers as well and it's not that we want to be known as crazy drivers, it's more the fact that every merge in MI is also an exit for the oncoming traffic so we don't really have a choice but to close our eyes and merge as fast as we can.
Sorry to offend =)

the key is to put on the breaks after cutting somebody off, otherwise you'll never collect on your insurance.

I lived in Waukesha and hated it there. Waukesha people are the snootiest people I have ever met! I live in Arizona and the people here are friendly and approachable. I say good riddens to Waukesha! So if you have any misconceptions about Wisconsin having only farms, dairy and humble people, look no further and you'll find Waukesha, a strange town living in it's own little world.

My New York City friends seem to think of Wisconsin as Green Acres. One likes to make fun of Wisconsin being the dairy state--you know, the cow jokes, the cheese jokes, etc. Others have thought Madison (can you believe??) is out in the country, until I showed some pics of Lake Mendota, the Farmers' Market (including the arts, musicians, and political rallies), a coffee house on the east side, a Tibetan shop on State Street, and the skyline as shot from Lake Mendota at night (stunning). There are also comments about everyone being fat.
Ai yai yai. I have taken a lot of ribbing and interrogation, but I am still on my way to Madison. Yay!
I told one guy at work who seemed to know a little bit about Madison that the cows are so cool they wear shades. Iow, I am learning to laugh at the stereotypes or to turn them on their heads.
I don't know why I feel compelled to educate my New York-centric friends about Wisconsin. But I can't wait to send them pics, videos, etc. of all the things I love about Wisconsin--State Street, the theatres, the concerts, the poetry readings, the lakes, Door County, the Cave of the Mounds, Devil's Lake State Park, the restaurants, the music festivals, etc. I am going to become an ambassador, especially since I will be traveling quite a bit between Madison and New York City. Since my last open mic feature (poetry) two have already said they want to visit. Now that's an achievement. lol.

Reason: I keep thinking of more and more cool things about Wisconsin.

Remember the show Frazer?
Frazer had a great line in one episode that he said to his assistant Roz.
You will recall Roz was supposedly from WI.
He said "Oh Roz- WI is the buckle on the bumpkin belt."
That was funny!!
