What do you like????
What do you like about your city? How long have you lived there? And would you ever move to another community?
I've lived in Fond du Lac for 43 years, love the location (1 hour from Madison, Milwaukee and Green Bay); love lakeside park on the bottom of Lake Winnebago; love the fact that we have quite a few parks throughout the city with a VERY nice ampitheater in Buttermilk park, although, I don't feel the city has utilized it enough or promoted it enough.
I am thinking of finally spreading my wings a little and moving someplace to the south end of Wisconsin.

Though I dont live there right now, I loved the towns we visited when we were there. Both times we went to WI. Evansville, Albany, Janesville, Stoughton was a bit larger but still nice, Madison...amazing. We went to the university, enjoyed watching the panhandlers along the blvd, lol, watched kayaking, had some of that yummy ice cream, walked along the pier. The smaller towns were so serene, so down to earth, the people were awesome, made me miss that type of living. We visited lakes and creeks all over the place and drove through miles and miles or beautiful green countryside. If the opportunity to ever move there ever became possible, Id probably say someplace like Evansville or Albany would be my prime choice, both towns were so small and cozy. Just talking about WI makes me miss it. The best part of the visit was meeting that drama teacher, my friend knew him and he also spent time doing rodeos as a hobby. He let me ride one of his horses, yee-haa! We still keep in touch but he's not doing the rodeos anymore.

I'm not to big on the town I live in (Portage). The city is not progressive what so ever. If you check out the Wisconsin photo sticky you will see my pictures of our beautiful countryside. It kills me to see a city in such a beautiful setting and not utilize its location etc. We are right on the Wisconsin river but you wouldn't know it because people here never really speak of the river. Our city government can't get along with the Main Street directors as well as the Business Improvement district staff. There is too many politics here. Portage has so much potential. There is just not a single soul that wants to see the city grow. Another problem here, is there is to much old money. When Kohls wanted to build a store on the Northside of Portage the city said no right away. Menards wanted a store here, city said no. Our downtown is almost 70% empty. I do love Wisconsin but I don't care much for Portage.

JoshB, I work at CCI in Portage but live in Fond du Lac (I know, I know - long drive), and I've noticed or felt that about Portage as well - that it just doesn't want to grow. It does seem like it has the potential to be a nice growing community and I've thought about relocating here but I don't like the feel. How long has the political bickering been going on?

BadgerNut, I would say ever since someone wanted to redo downtown. Don't get me wrong Portages downtown needs a huge revitalization. As you said it doesn't want to grow.
Wow, that is quite a haul! I went for a ride to Fon du Lac with a friend on Friday. We took 33 to some county road on the GPS and ended up on 151 to 41. That was the first time being in Fon du Lac. It was a lot more spread out than I thought it would be.

We've been getting some great restaraunts downtown over the last two years or so. And everywhere you look there are trees, trees, and more trees (not that I'm about to hug one). Plus the city is quite safe, though there's been a bit more riff-raff coming in lately.
Still doesn't make up for winter though

Yeah, Fond du Lac is pretty spread out. I like it, although it could use more decent restaurants, or maybe it's I'm just bored with the ones we have. We're growing but not real fast like Appleton area. And yes it IS a haul!!!!! I've been doing it for about 1 1/2 years now and it sounds like you took the route I normally use when I come to work.
yo vanilla, I'm presuming you're talking about Portage also?

Talking about FDL always reminds me of that family restaurant just off of 41 - located on 151 & the frontage road that goes down to the State Patrol building. For the life of me I can't remember the name of it, but I LOVE that place. Stop there every time I go through.
