Moving to Wis-Public Transportation ?s
Hi-
Ill be moving up there in a few weeks to go to school in Madison, I am staying just outside of Wisconsin Dells. I need to know whats the cheapest way to get to Madison on a daily basis. I looked up Amtrak but they want like one hundred dollars for one trip and I have to go all the way to Chicago and then to Madison. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks.

The cheapest way to do this is to buy the cheapest running fuel-efficient used car you can find, because that's the only way you're going to commute back and forth between the Dells and Madison on a daily basis.

Thanks for the advice I do actually have a car thats pretty good on gas, I thought it may be cheaper to take the train or bus though. Problem is I can not seem to find anything that goes that way.

Welcome to Wisconsin!
Drover is right. There's not much public transportation in the state outside of the bigger cities. Check out the ride share boards at the university. If you're lucky you can find someone who you can share gas with at times.

Greyhound goes between Madison and the Dells. The problem is you're at the mercy of their schedule, which is almost certainly not going to neatly coincide with your class schedule every day. Driving is your only realistic option, and even at that you'll probably have to park at a "transfer point" within the bus system and take a city bus from there to campus. Parking near campus is an absolute nightmare. Maybe you'll get lucky and get a university parking pass -- after faculty and staff, I think commuters like you get first priority.

What about Badger Bus, is that still running? If it is, I know it runs between Milwaukee & Madison, not sure about the Dells though.

Why not just stay closer to Madison? Why would you want an hour commute each way?
