Good for your mom, that is wonderful. My former neighbor in Illinois is 85 and in her own place, still drives, quite amazing. I talk to her regularly and she's still getting along o.k. but does not drive or go out when its snowy or icey. She walks, exercises every day, eats healthy and ran circles around me, kept me on my toes!
I shoveled alot today, side roads aren't that great around here so I'm staying in tonight. It wasn't bad outside aside from the big lake effect snow flakes, I was out about 2 hrs., now I'm beat!

Susan, Glad you got all your chores done.lol
I'm taking off to a family get together. About half an hour north of me. Mostly back roads, yikes! Then after I leave there I have an hour and half commute to my moms where I'm spending the night. Lots of driving ahead of me.
So safe driving to all! Merry Christmas as well.

Hi, everyone,
This is my first post. I've been reading the city-data forum for a couple of months now as my husband and I are taking steps to relocate from Chicago suburbs to Wisconsin. I've gotten so I recognize a lot of your names. Anyway, we're really looking forward to the move, but I'm a little nervous about going somewhere where I don't know anyone. We still don't know where we'll end up. My husband has applied for jobs in Tomah, Sparta, Medford, Wisconsin Rapids, and Rhinelander. Does anyone have any advice for me? Thanks!

Julie, Welcome to the forum! What kind of field do you and your husband work in? That may help us give you ideas of where to look.... The northwoods can be tough to find jobs unless your in Medical or tourism. Medford is a great little town, not much there but lots of fun. I like La Crosse because of it's location on the river, Madison is nice as well. You could check out Appleton.

Josh, My husband is a clinical social worker and I'm an elementary school teacher. I won't be applying for anything until my husband gets a job and we know where we will be. Oh, he also applied for a position in Wausau. We like Madison for a big city, but we want to live in the country. I haven't been to LaCrosse in many years. I'm not sure we want a town that big either. But we did see a house in Cashton that we liked. We really like the Stevens Point/Wisconsin Rapids area. Hopefully, a job there will pan out...Thanks for listening!

Julie, Stevens Point is a beautiful area. I can't speak for WI Rapids though. Cashton lies within the Driftless area so that ought to be a beautiful area.

Welcome, Julie and good luck to you and your husband in your search. You'll have fun reading all the pros and cons on the Wisconsin board! I moved to the Two Rivers/Manitowoc area last fall and I'm quite happy. I'm retired though so I wasn't depending on a job.
Personally relocating from Illinois to Wisconsin is not that difficult, I just don't see the negativity that some posters say about being from Illinois in Wisconsin. I've never been treated that way and if people do care that yet again I'm one more Illinoisan coming here, not my problem.

Welcome Julie, I'm sure you'll love living in the Steven's Point/Wisconsin Rapids area, so I hope you both find something there.
