I'm relocating to Green Bay Area from Dallas too!
Hello ComputerBlue,
I currently live in Garland. Desperate to get information about Green Bay, WI, I stumbled across your thread! I'm a Black American female whose looking for more info on the black communities in this area as well. Haven't been too successful, but, I'm in the Army, so I'm used to being out of my comfort zone.
I'm just concerned about how well my 6 yr old son will adapt. I hope I will be able to find a good non denominational Christian Church, and barber for my son. I'm sure that a black natural hair stylist is too much to ask, but I'm sure I'll manage (lol). Hey, keep me posted on what you find out.
I also came across this link that you may find interesting. I certainly plan on checking them out when I get there in Jan 09.

Well hello... I actually am right next door to you. I'm in Mesquite. I used to live in Boise, Idaho and hardly any blacks at all. I would only see a few when I went out. It seems from my experience and living in towns and cities with a few blacks these cities and towns seem to be alot more welcoming. But I did read about Wisconsin as a state being in top worst states to be black. More black incarcerations then any other state. I think Iowa was like 2nd. But from what i'm hearing Milwaukee is pretty bad. But then again everyone has there own experiences. But I'm hoping the fox valley will be okay(Appleton, Greenbay). Did you check out the Greenbay Blogs?... I chose Appleton cause it got the better overall reviews from people living in the area. Appleton seems prettier. I'm non dominational as well. I will be lookin also for a good church So will u still be in the Army when u move to Greenbay?

http://www.city-data.com/city/Green-Bay-Wisconsin.htm
You might want to start a new thread on specific information on Green Bay if the blogs don't answer ur specific questions on those links.

Thanks!
Hey ComupterBlue,
Thanks for the links, and I'll keep you posted on any more information I get.
Yes, I will still be in the Army when I move to the Green Bay area
(Heck, that's the ONLY reason why I'm going up that way in the first place ).
I pray that I won't have to spend more than two years up there.
I'm just going to do my job and get out because it's too cold! - LOL
But it'll be a great experience for my son. He's never seen snow that sticks to the ground .
At 6 years old, 8 inches of snow or more is definitley a turn on.
Chat with you later..

Hey E6, be sure to have your camera along when your child goes out for the first time. I expect that should be a memorable time. Kids and dogs and snow, it gets wild.

I don't know much about Appleton other than the fact that it was once a sundown town. It may have improved but all I can say is that no particular place is free of prejudice.

Appleton is one of the few towns that doesn't totally fall into the Wisconsin stereotype.
