It is a machine. A close family member of mine is a retired postal worker from the main Milwaukee Processing & Distribution Center. USPS has been using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) machines that make these kind of mistakes all the time.

These damn things have not only caused major headaches for customers and workers, they have been counter-productive in their goal of automation. These things actually cause USPS to need more labor to undo the screwups of this machine and fix it whenever it breaks down (which is about every 10 minutes).

Management doesn't care. Just as long as they get paid. That's why the OCRs and every other attempt by them to introduce new technology fails. They never do the necessary work of investigating these ideas and working out all the kinks.

I've been mailing stuff for 60 odd years and never had problem one with USPS
service or employees. The pay of 10.000 postal employees wouldn't make a decent retirement bonus on Wall St. or Insurance industry either.

When I lived in Germany I had all sorts of hassle with Deutsche Post !

I grew up in Owen, WI. It's a very tiny town and unfortunately, there isn't anything very notable about it. Very simple, very quaint and very small. There is one restaurant, a drive up burger joint (not a major name, just a mom and pop place) which is open in the summer months only. The people are friendly, but very sheltered. I now live in Phoenix, Arizona but if you are looking for specific info about Owen, WI my whole family lives there or in the immediate area.

Cheers!
I grew up South of Owen too and currently live in Phoenix. Can't wait to move back. I was pretty grumpy here in Phoenix when It was still 109 degrees this weekend.

Ya know, I was looking for more posts by Homebrew, the Australian who started this this line about the two "Owen" towns; his last post was in May of 2007. I wonder if something happened to him? I hope not...any info?
