You are right about the beach...I also live in CA...we love the beach, but all you seem to do is sit in traffic to get there...then you have to either leave before rush hour starts or wait till it's late or you'll be sitting in bumper to bumper traffic again...Lake Michigan is so much easier to navigate!

Don't know why you want to live in Appleton of all places. At one time it was a very nice town but in the last 6-7 yrs the town has gone down the tubes. Increased crime rates, increased taxes, increased trashy neighborhoods. A less than desirable group has moved here from Chicago and after the hurricaine Katrina a even less desirable group. Look at Middleton, Wisc. a suburb close to Madison.
