Default Job in Racine - relocation help

We are planning on relocating from Dallas to the Racine area. Actually my job is in Racine and we are looking for an upscale area with good schools, things to do, etc. We don't mind a commute up to 30 minutes or so. Don't want to be in an area that is real closed minded or rural. We are in our early 40's with active elementary school kids. Thanks

If you are looking for an isolated upscale neighborhood you would probably be best served living in Milwaukee. Racine has it's areas but the problem is that it is a small city, so you will find an "upscale" neighborhood one block away from a "lower class" neighborhood, so while your street or area will be upscale, the gas station down the street will not be, neither will the area grocery store etc. People from Racine usually are not close minded BUT you have to remember that it is a small town, no offense to anyone from a small town but the everyday experience in a major city and a small town is different, so you won't find the type of diversity you will in a major city.

The commute between Racine and Milwaukee is not that bad depending how far away from the highway you are. Racine has a few major street/highways that lead to and from the highway, which decreases the time of the commute and once you are on the freeway the drive is only about 10-15 minutes, another good thing is that rush hour traffic is really not bad driving into Milwaukee opposed to leaving.

The public schools in Racine are not great, far from it so you might want to look into private school, if you have any questions feel free to pm me I moved to the area from Texas too.

The upscale communities are Caledonia and Mt. Pleasant. They are town/villages of about 25,000 each. Mt. Pleasant borders to the west of Racine and Caledonia borders to the North. That's where the new homes are being constructed. Racine is landlocked and not upscale unless you live along certain places near the lake.
