Default Swimming Pools in Wisconsin?

Hi everyone -

We just found a beautiful house that we're thinking of purchasing. It has a large, gorgeous swimming pool in the backyard.

I'm not so sure this is at all practical in Wisconsin.

My questions are: 1) What did the 100+ inches of snow we had last winter do to pools (collapse covers, etc.?); 2) Do you think we'd have a resale problem with a pool in the yard--actually there isn't much yard--it's all pool--cuts down on mowing though (I've heard it can cut down your prospective purchasers by 50%)?

Thanks for any input. I appreciate it.

We had a pool when we lived in Milwaukee, no problem reselling.

In the winter the pool froze up so we just threw a few inner tubes between the ice and the cover. Never had a problem with that either.

My parents heat their pool -- not enough to make it usable year-round, but enough to keep it from freezing in the winter.

My former home had one; I lived there 4 years. Unless you heat it the swim season is short, but otherwise no problems. I'd hire pros to open/close the pool since their work is guaranteed, and there was never a problem with the liner/water lines/etc.

It was scary on the really cold nights and the ice would crack really loud...in the middle of the night...scared the wits out of me more than once!

Hey! Why own a place with a Pool when you COULD live on a Lake with great swimming? Guess it depends upon where you want to live, but I am used to swimming in Wisconsin lakes. In winter time they are GREAT playgrounds. You can do snow removal and Ice Skate, drive a snow mobile or Ice Fish...
