Default Welcome

wisconsin in general is not that bad. it like most states and cities have little quarks that you either learn to love or just deal with it. I live in a small town about 35 minutes from appleton and I would prefer to go to appleton shopping. I will agree that there will be a culture shock but if you get yourself and your family excited about the positive things than you should be able to deal with it better. Some of the positive things are we have 4 seasons and to see the leaves change in the fall in just beautiful, plus if you have children you get to see them enjoy the snow for the first time. Wisconsin also has many different areas to visit that are family friendly and even if it is just the two of you there are many things to do. Good Luck in your move and WELCOME to wisconsin.

Some of you guys need to take a trip out here and see what it's really like. Just make sure you go back home. Don't base your views on what you see on TV.The Fox Valley and Madison are the primary places I would consider living if I came back to Wisconsin.

My husband and I are considering a re-location from Phoenix to Appleton. We will be reired. My husband is 60, and I am 51. We will be retired. I have done quite a bit of research, and we are looking for a small town atmosphere. Phoenix is loaded with illegal aliens, and state government here provides an unbelievable amount of services to this population. Both of us are currently employed by the county government here, so we know this to be a fact. Anyway, we are NOT looking for a huge amount of diversity. I know this sounds racist, but the problem in AZ is out of control, and we can no longer tolerate the taxes spent for this purpose. Is this an issue in general in Wisconsin? Another issue for us is the winter. Is it as brutal as people suggest? Are we crazy for considering Appleton as a choice because of the winter climate? Is it workable(for lack of a better word) in terms of winter weather?

I'm 68-retired and live in Appleton. As far as crime, cleanliness, health care and in many ways a 50's atmosphere you won't find a better place in the US to live.
Be aware, that it is VERY difficult to make friends here, people are polite, smile
and all that but nearly everyone has lived here all their life, still have all their friends
from 3rd grade, and 56 relatives within 20 miles. In short no need or time for you.
Cities in west WI like EauClaire are a little better as they have more in and out moving.Rochester,MN is better as are towns under 5.000 or so.

Im in CA and not to mention the fact that when you go to the emergency room for a real emergency, you have to wait 2 hours just to get in because all the illegals bring their screaming kids in for a cold

Wow, what incredibly valuable insight. Was it too much effort to even bother trying to explain your position?
