Default Musket accident at Hayward

This past weekend, a young man was killed at Hayward when what the papers say was a ?"homemade musket" exploded.

We are needing some facts about what happened here, what was the musket in fact, and how did it happen to explode? Did he load it with smokless powder or what was the cause here.

Just the facts, please.

Thanks
JW

Musket blast kills Illinois man

HAYWARD — Authorities in northwestern Wisconsin say a 40-year-man has died after a musket he was loading exploded.
Sawyer County deputies say the Geneva, Ill., man died Friday about 7:15 p.m., less than an hour after the explosion.
Authorities say three men at a cabin near Hayward were attempting to load and fire the musket. Deputies say the victim tried to fire the gun, and it exploded, sending shrapnel into his thigh. His friends drove him to a hospital where he died.
Authorities believe the shrapnel may have sliced through the femoral artery, one of the body’s main blood vessels.
The man’s name hasn’t been released pending notification of family.

Yes that has been out commonly, we are trying to find details concerning the gun that exploded and if he was using smokless powder instead of black powder. It seems the lid has been nailed on the info around Hayward.

Well if you were in Hayward and went to the bar, you could get all the news, but not much is going on on the street. I guess I'll just have to call the Sheriff to find out.
