whatever. i live here right now. and i drive ALL THE TIME. in fact, my entire livelihood revolves around cars, roads, and motoring in general. you name 10 beat up roads in appleton, i'll name 50 good ones. just last year they repaved nearly every road in the pierce park area, and college ave is brand new from hwy 41 all the way until the river. not to mention much new construction in the erb park area last year, and nearly every main artery of the grand chute commercial area is new as well.
i will add one street to my crappy list - spencer. that road sucks. so when i drive on spencer, wisconsin, or outagamie, i will think of you.
p.s. maybe you need to get some new shocks in that old buick of yours?

Yeah, right, Mr. Appleton expert. Btw-I don't drive a Buick or any other piece of American junk for that matter. Now for your list of 10 (that's an easy one):
1) Wisconsin Ave from Richmond, east to Ballard.
2) Packard st, from Richmond to Mason.
3) Spencer--the entire Appleton portion of it.
4) Divsion st, from North st to Wis Ave.
5) Memorial Dr, from College Ave to Prospect Ave.
6) Ballard from Wis Ave to Northland Ave.
7) South Onieda from the south end of the skyline bridge to 441
8) East College ave, from the Bridge, east towards 441
9) South Memorial Dr from Calumet St to Valley Road
10) College Ave Bridge
I could give you 50 more, but now it's your turn. I drove for Valley Transit in Appleton for 12 years. The biggest expense in maintaining the busses wasn't engines, transmissions, hydraulics or electrical systems. It was SUSPENSIONS!!! Bad streets in Appleton have always been an issue and always will be. But since you think the roads are so good there-than you shouldn't mind paying the outreagous property taxes. And when you do think of me, think of me here in Henderson Nevada, not EVER having to dodge even one pothole!!!! Or having to deal with the slush, salt and slop either!!

since i'm about to go to bed, i'll just mention that if you think most of those roads are bad you havent seen many bad roads lol strech goal. you might not call some of them glass smooth, but bad? i'll give you packard, but oneida and college, lol. plus, and i am not certain, memorial drive south of calumet is part of metrasha. its certainly on the winnebago county side anyway. and actually last summer it also had some construction.
i know you drove the bus from your other posts. BEFORE the bulk of reconstruction over the last few years apparantly. either that or you've got blinders on over your bifocals lol
p.s. i know all about motor vehicles. suspension systems are ALWAYS the quickest to wear out, bad roads or good roads. they do a huge amount of work no matter what the condition. thats a given.

NOt looking to "Spar" with anyone out there-but I will stick up for the truth in Regards to Appleton topics. Having lived there for 35 years, i'm not about to let a "Newbie" spew forth info that is either incorrect or otherwise skewed. My apology to anyone I have offended!!

I personally enjoyed the playful jesting! Play an extra 9 holes for me! Appleton roads are horrible! The only city that has Appleton roads beat in the crappy department in this area is Oshkosh!

I think your question relates more to someone who is not from WI moving here and perhaps coming from the east coast (from your username)--looks like a lot of answers are very local-based.
As someone from out of state, from the NE moving to appleton/Neenah, I had a lot of doubts about this area. however, I had also heard that it was a good quality of living here with relatively low cost of living (property tax excluded).
Like any small town, it is easy to focus on how there is 'no' nightlife here and that there isn't much to do. but you just need to be more proactive and find things--and keep yourself busy. and be open to trying new things and joining new activities. the good thing about KC is that you will have a new employee network that can get you started.
I've found the people are very nice here and it's very 'comfortable' here. there is no traffic and everything you need to get to on a daily basis is <20 mins away. it's growing but it is still a small town.
and for someone coming out of school, you'll find nice apartments in either Neenah or Appleton and the rent is low here for the amount of square footage you get!
