I lived in La Crosse from 1999 up to this Spring.

I'd discount 6th St (shady) and Vine St (campus) off the bat. 6th St between Cass & Hood is rather blighted, which is a relative term considering it's far from dangerous. Vine St is essentially all college housing. It's a little crowded and rowdy for a professional, but maybe that's your cup of tea.

King St is far enough removed from that action where it's liveable, but the rentals there are nothing to write home about --- mostly older houses gutted out into duplexes or worse. Probably not the best locale for a single occupant.

Front St is right on Riverside Park. As such it would be the priciest option as far as rentals go, but also the nicest and quietest. Good location, too, assuming you'd be working downtown.

Default thank you

Thank you for your quick reply. I will not be working in downtown though. I will be working at Trane near Weston street. Any nearby area good for single professionals.

Trane spans 19th & Weston to Losey (24th St-ish) & Ward Ave. Weston St is about 3 or 4 blocks south of Green Bay St and Weston to Ward is about 10 blocks apart. Anything south of Green Bay is perfectly fine, trouble is there's an extreme dearth of rental properties. I'd look somewhere near 33rd & Broadview. You may be able to find an odd house available for renting, I'd go that route before any sort of apartment complex, but that's just personal preference on my part.

A peculiar thing about La Crosse is that while Traffic isn't all that bad, especially compared to larger cities, the way it's geographically situated between the bluffs and the river really hampers commutes. It's best to live east/west of your place of employment than north/south as there are ostensibly 3 major north/south routes in the entire city. Probably a minor factor but it's one to consider.

Hi , King St - Large older homes some students near University of La Crosse and Vitbro Collage. Front St- down by the River older buildings used for storage and some businesses no homes or rentals in this area. 6th St. LARGE MIX OF PEOPLE ,LOSTS OF POLICE CALLS, would not want anyone I know lining in the area. Vine St again near the University lots of Student action, high rent. I just posted a clasified ad for 2 bedroom apartments we have. $430.00 per month. Includes appliances and water. Off street parking. This is a side by side a 40 some year old man living on other side. We live across the street and above us is a 2+ bedroom apt.$600.00 per month includes everything-cable-heat-water-appliances-electricity. We are located 3 miles north of the area you were looking at. Close to shopping, schools, churches,on busline, and 2 blocks from the river. Beautiful area. If intrested call Joseph or Cecilia at 608 782 1660 or e-mail josephceciliadu@centurytel.net.

If you are interested in renting a house in La Crosse, I have one that's available. It's on Farnam St. - about 1 mile or so from Trane. It is actually my son's house, who - ironically - moved to Dallas. We are actually trying to sell it, but would be willing to rent it during the winter if it doesn't sell in the next two weeks. You can check it out at ghrealtors.com MLS # 1015685. It is in mainly a single family residential area and is also close to both hospitals and Viterbo University. If you might be interested, then email me at JaneM7@aol.com. for more information.
