Is there much difference???
How would you describe Kaukauna/Little Chute and Grand Chute to Appleton? Is there any difference? Housing? Schooling? Things to do?

As we try to get ourselves back to Wisconsin, these are the area's we are looking at as well. Being born Wisconsinites and living there are whole lives up to 4 1/2 years ago, we know this area very well. I have relatives in Appleton, so have been going there my whole life. Hubby's company(main hub)is located there as well.
All the cities are connected pretty close to one another, so shopping is everywhere. Grand Chute is on the west side of Appleton near the mall. Little Chute, Kaukauna are close to each other. Kimberly/Darboy is in that vacinity as well. We are looking in those areas to live in because hubby's work is on that side of Appleton.
We don't have children, so schools aren't an issue for us. We absolutely love this area and can't wait to get there. Hubby usually has meetings for a week in winter and I just love getting back there.
Housing prices vary, depends how big of a house you want. We've seen plenty of nice homes in our price range.
I'm sure people that actually live in or near those cities will let you know more. I just know that I can't wait till we move there.

I forgot to say that Little Chute and Kaukauna, which are right next to each other are east side Appleton.

If you have ever been to Kaukauna, you know this, but if not, it does smell. The paper mill smells the air up, and on a windy day you can smell it in Appleton. I used to drive from Appleton to Green Bay every day for work and dreaded driving through the stench.
Grand Chute and Little Chute are suburbs of Appleton, they all run into each other. We lived on the North side of Appleton. It was a nice city to live in, I miss it. There is great shopping and places to eat. The city is easy to get around in and there really isn't much of a rush hour. You are also close to Door County, if you like the outdoors they have the best state parks.

My husband and I use to have a saying while we lived in Appleton--"Smells like Kaukauna!" Actually, we still say it once in awhile when something is particularly stinky. It doesn't smell all the time, but often enough, and when it does and the wind blows the right direction, so does Appleton. I can still smell it, although I can't accurately describe it.

The sour stench in air. I used to work at a felt mill took a bit to get used to it then and now been away a few tears it makes you gag again. The recycled water they use is alot of that stench.

Thanks everyone for your input that really helps. I'm looking at Menomonie over by Eau Claire as well, does anyone have any information on that city? Thanks again!

I would do another thread about Menomonie and make sure you put the town name in the thread. There are fewer posters from that area of the state.
