This is true, as Wisconsin and Minnesota carry alot of the canadian accents. I came from Wis, via Scotland to VA and yes, I had one funny accent! I also have very good canadian friends here and when they speak, I'm right back in Wisconsin! eh!

I am originally from Chicago. Once I was down in Southern Indiana and getting something done to my van. A guy was standing there with his wife and said " I don't care if her van plates say WI she is from Chicago." They had moved to southern IN from Chicago and recognized the Chicago accent immediately.

Boy, all this talk about Canadian-sounding Wisconsin accents...what does that make me? Northern Wisconsinites think that I sound very Canadian! I have very long "o"s. "About" comes out "a boat," "route" comes out "raowt," and so on.
I'm missing the northwoods, too. Especially the Big Lake. Favorite memory? Hmmm...they all run together. One New Year's Day, I got up early and went snowshoeing on the North Country Trail by Drummond. Fresh snow had fallen the night before and everything was glinting in the morning sunlight. A slight breeze would blow the powdery snow off the pine branches; it looked like confetti falling. And of course everything was so powerfully silent.
So now it is a very strange time of year for me, as my mother called Sunday and said it was snowing while here I was standing outside in shorts, t-shirt and flip-flops, and there wasn't a cloud in the blue, blue sky. It feels like a Wisconsin June...I'm going to be so screwed up this year!

You won't be missing it when it's -20 and 3-5 feet of snow!
Nothing like flip flops and an tee shirt in Feb!
