Wink We need info about autism programs in Wisconsin

Hello-My family currently lives in Washington State. My husband and 10 yr old son are both Asperger's, and our 6 year old daughter is low functioning autistic. We just are not getting the help/support needed here and are seriously considering re-location to WI. I understand the weather is quite drastic, but for the help/services we are finding, we believe it is woth it. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated, as we have never been out of WA Also, if anyone know the age limits for services as well as any toll free numbers we could call for infomation--Thank you all so much and God Bless--Angela

I taught special education in the Waukesha Schools here in WI for almost 20 years, and I know that they have excellent programs for Autism in most of the elementary schools. I don't know if you have decided where you are going to live, but if you would like more information on Waukesha's programs, feel free to PM me.

Default Autism therapy in WI

I currently work as a behavioral therapist in Madison, WI. I am on several therapy teams that work with children who have autism. Most families here work with the Wisconsin Early Autism Project when they initially start therapy, and they usually hire their own therapists while they wait for funding. Just this past week there has been a bill proposed by our governor to get the insurance companies to pay for services. There is definetely a lot of support here for families affected by autism.

Hi Angela!

First of all, let me express how sorry I am that you are not getting the support you DESERVE in Washington. I know you posted this back in Feb... have you already moved? Is relocating something your family is still considering?

My sister is epileptic and her cognitive and speech skills are similar to that of a child with autism. Have you ever heard of Discovery Toys? Due to the high number of toy recalls as of late, I became a DT consultant. DT does a LOT of work with autistic children and their toys are amazing! My sister-in-law is a special education teacher and she uses DT in her autistic classroom.

I have a website if you'd like more information:
