Default Drive from Lake Geneva to Green Bay

Normally when I want directions, I head to to Mapquest and plug in the information. In this case, I would like some personal experience.

Next Monday night, I have to drive from Lake Geneva to Green Bay. There may or may not be any snow that evening. If I was heading there over the summer, I would take I-43 all the way. However, during the winter, what is best route to get to Green Bay safely.

Any opinions??

Someone here may be able to give you advice as to how 41 is maybe you should head up that way. I'm not familiar with how open 41 is in terms of blowing and drifting snow.

I live by the lake so I use 43 but with blowing snow, 43 can get ugly in Sheboygan and Manitowoc counties. We just had over a foot of light snow, its blowing around like crazy. To make matters worse Saturday into Sunday, another 4-7 is supposed to come our way with high winds.

No matter which way you decide to go, check the road conditions:

Distance wise, according to Google maps, there is only 12 miles difference between the two routes, US-41 being the longer of the two. I-43 is probably just as good as US 41 unless lake effect snow is active. Most of I-43 is far enough inland to be clear of lake effect snow unless we're getting a heavy-hitting northeaster.

I prefer I-43 because it is basically rural from Sheboygan county to Green Bay. On US-41, there are several cities that cause a little bit of slow(er) traffic and some disarray.

Check road conditions and decide that way.
