Sorry wrong school. Wausau East is the newer of the 2 high schools!

IMHO, if you don't count the age of the building, Wausau West is the newer school (system). Wausau East has existed since 1898, then known as Wausau High School and later as Wausau Senior High, but recently moved into a new building. So EKG is correct; however if you mean whose building in newer, than Chairborne is correct. So we have a draw.

Hi,
I have lived in the area for a few years and for the most part really like it. Wausau is a big small town. Lots of arts and free activities, especially for families. I prefer the East Side of Wausau, especially the East Hill area, for its tree lined streets and architecture. The west side is more of the cookie cutter stuff.
As far as food - Downtown has some good options - La Prima Italian Deli, Little Italy, Back When (fancier fare), Downtown Grocery has take home meals and organic produce. The Mexican food here is lacking, but I do like El Mezcal in Rib Mountain. For Asian - Chang Garden is by far the best. The Hiawatha is always good.
You should check out www.wausaublog.org (broken link) for in inside scoop on Wausau.
Cheers!

Supercrafty, thanks for the link. The photos on the blog were wonderful. Wausau looks like it has a lot going on in its community. I saw an event called Artrageous. Is that annual, if so when is it?

Artrageous----and almost all of the community art events-----Wausau Festival of the Arts, Art in the Park, Artrageous, Leigh Yawkey Woodsen Birds in Art Specials, etc., are usually the week/weekend after Labor Day weekend----in early September. Hope this helps!

Artrageous Weekend (which includes Birds in Art, Wausau Festival of Arts and Art in the Park) is always the first weekend after Labor Day.

Hi there displaced Brit: I know this is an old thread but I do just want to add my comments. My family and I used to live in Wisconsin in an area known as the Northwoods which is approx. 2 hours drive to Wausau. However that's what we did when we needed the "big city". We saved up all our shopping for those trips to the city. We had our favourite places to eat, favourite shops and just used to love being in such a neat town. I remember we even drove there 2 days in a row, and it was snowing the 2nd day. But it's what we had to do if we wanted the necessities of life which weren't available in the town we lived in. My memories of Wausau are that I also would love to live there. I know you will love it too.

My husband's family has a cabin in the Northwoods. I love it up there.
Well, I arrived in Wausau and have been very impressed so far. People have been so friendly and helpful. It has changed quite a bit since I was here last, and from what I have seen for the better.
I'm looking forward to the local events that are coming up this Summer. There is so much information out there, that there is no way I can miss anything unless through my own stupidity!
It's good to be here!

Hi there,
You could check out the, ahem Wausaublog at WWW.WAUSAUBLOG.ORG and you will find some of my alleged journalism and photography there. Wausau is very rich in culture for a city our size and I am sure you will find much to do.
Welcome!

Already been there You have some beautiful photos on the site. Once I get settled I'll be out and about with my camera. I wish I had taken some shots at the Woodchucks game this week. I had a blast!
Hope everyone made it through the storms ok!
