Default Thinking of Relocating to De Pere

My husband took a job teaching at NWTC in Green Bay in January and we are planning to move up after school is out. We are not sure we want to buy something there so we are looking at renting. We have heard good things about the school system in De Pere but wonder about the apartment situation there. We plan to keep our home here in Illinois for a while anyway so we can't afford more than about 600 for rent. We also have a couple of kitties that are part of our family and we won't leave them behind. So we need a cat friendly apartment too. Anyone know anything about apartments in De Pere?

You should have no problem whatsoever finding something in that range and that allows cats. I can't think of any off hand but there are a ton of apartments all over DePere.

Smile Apartments in Depere

Thomas Wright Investments (from Brookfield Wi) owns several complexes in the Depere and Green Bay areas. Can't recall the names of the places however. Their complexes are well maintained, managed and all allow cats. It's actually now called Wright-Weber management. I rented from them and manged a complex of theirs in Appleton. I highly reccomend their units.

Thanks Greg. My husband is actually living in GB right now, renting a basic apartment there. It is a WW building too so that will help in our quest. I checked with Toonan Properties in De Pere, lovely apartments but they don't allow cats in their DP apartments. They allow them in their GB apartments but not the ones in DP. Not sure why.

Toonan is good management also, with nice complexes. As far as no cats are allowed-if you find and like a place that says no cats-talk directly to the onsite manager about it. I know that exceptions to that policy can occur. Have your hubby pick up one of those "Start Renting" magazines found in grocery and gas stations. They list each property with basic descriptions, what and what is not included, etc. There are also some "neat" condo type units for rent in Wrightstown, on the Fox River. About 15-20 minute drive away from Green Bay. Quiet, off the beaten path, town of a couple thousand.

I actually lived in an apartment owned by Thomas Wright Properties called Cedar Lake apartments right in Depere, nice place, super overpriced but the area is awesome.

I always thought that T. Wright properties were priced fairly?? Most of their complexes are newer and have the wonderful "Hydronic In Floor Heating". They are so comfortably warm in the winter.

Absolutely comfortable and I guess we only paid $850 for a 2 bedroom, I've seen worse and we were lakeside on the man made lake.

I'm afraid $850.00 is way out of our budget. We are still going to be making mortgage payments on our home in Illinois for a while so we need to find something around $600.00. The only thing I won't do without is a washer and dryer in the unit. I refuse to run up and down stairs doing laundry and plugging machines with quarters and sitting and waiting for it. I can live without my cats before I will do without a washer and dryer in the unit.

You should be able to find something nice for 600-650 per month. A lot of places offer the first and second months rent free-or it can be pro-rated for the entire first year, lowering your monthly rent payment. Wright-Weber offers that deal quite frequently. So does Toonen properties.
