Nice!
True, all of it. Wisconsin is hardly conservative.

Yeah, I have always scratched my head mightily at that stuff too. So many people here might vote for, say, Russ Feingold for the Senate, and then (obviously this is just a hypothetical) Mark Green for Governor.
To me, that doesn't make a lick of sense, as if you agree with Feingold on issues you probably wouldn't a Republican or vice/versa, but hey, especially in WI, it seems that all politics are local big-time.

Historically in Wisconsin you could basically divide the conservative side from the liberal side by highway 51. Eastern wisconsin outside the city of milwaukee proper is decidedly conservative. The heaviest strongholds of right wingers is in suburban milwaukee and the fox valley. The last two elections of 06 and 08 have bucked this trend a little bit <Mod cut: inflammatory / opinionary for Politics subforum>
West of Highway 51 is fairly evenly split, although slightly left, with the big exception being Dane county (Madison). Madison by itself has made Wisconsin a Democratic state for many years. Some say Milwaukee is a stronghold but voter turnout there usually doesn't match that of Madison.
Realistically Wisconsin would be much more of a left leaning state than it is, the largest pockets of conservatives are <Mod cut: inflammatory / opinionary for Politics subforum>

How exactly does one medium sized city (223,389) single handedly decide the political climate of a state with over 6 million people? 66% of Madison residents are registered as Democrats, 62% in Milwaukee (602,191).

Perhaps you would like to read the entire thread. There were some good points concerning the entire state.

Perhaps it is you who should have read the entire thread, if you did you'd see that I already seconded the notion that the state of Wisconsin as a whole is far from conservative. My last post was in response to the previous post by Wellstone that claimed Madison and Dane County are the only reason our state votes Democratic.

I agree, Wisconsin is not a conservative state. The first time I heard someone say that, I was very surprised.Maybe people need to define social conservatism vs political conservativism. Wisconsin might be socially conservative, but it's politics always have been very liberal, even socialist.

Here's an example, I personally think abortion is morally reprehensible, but I don't think the government should tell women what to do with their bodies. Socially conservative, politically liberal.
