Default Wife found a job in Whitewater

hi,

Searching info on Whitewater lead me to this helpful site. My wife recently got a job with UW at Whitewater. Growing up in suburbs north Chicago and graduated from UIUC, I am somewhat familiar with the weather and the cities and towns around here has to offer.

With families still around Chicago and uncertainty of my job, I am looking for affordable area to live in between Chicago and Whitewater; somewhere that's within reasonable commute time if I found a job around Chicago.

I guess I want somewhere flexible because my plan is pretty uncertain at this time. I would really appreciate if you can give me general pointers on what to look for and what to avoid in this area. Thanks!!!

Stay away from Palmyra. Scary town full of dumb backwoodsy types that would just as soon shoot ya as look at ya.

We lived there for two years and it felt like the town was right out of Deliverance.

Quite a few adjunct professors at UWW live in McHenry and Crystal Lake, IMO, that would be a real PITA to commute to Whitewater during snowy weather, but they do it.
