The grass is always greener (or browner in Miami)... 72 degrees of traffic, rude people, brown crunchy grass (no rain or snow), illegal immigrants, loud honking or music blaring, crime... We should trade houses. Come for one Memorial weekend in South Beach and you will run all the way back to WI. "Run, Forrest, Run!" Give me a shovel and some snowboots and I'm ready to go.

I vacation every year in south beach in July/august, I had my honey moon there and I lived in boca for a year and loved every second of it. Believe it or not some people do like it in Fla and some people here in WI hate the weather.

I would strongly agree with those who caution against moving to a small town in Wisconsin if you have never lived in a northern small town before. Two big issues: Small rural towns and winter weather. And note, I say this as a native of a small town in North Dakota (my wife also).
My wife and I moved to Wisconsin 13 years ago and we love the state but winter remains hard for us in spite of a lifetime of experience. I am afraid it would be a painful shock to anyone who lives in Florida. I love Wisconsin but winter is something to be endured. It is physically and psychologically painful. We live in Wisconsin in spite of the winter and every year we ask ourselves why we don't move south. The answer is our community of friends but I can't imagine how hard it would be for someone who is coming in new without such a network.
Also - small town life is for natives. If you move to a small rural community from somewhere else, you will likely be an outsider for at least a decade, maybe even longer.
If you are set on moving to Wisconsin, I would not consider any community smaller than Steven's Point or Eau Claire. In towns smaller than that, almost everyone has lived there for their entire life. They have had all their friends from childhood and they are rarely seeking new friends. Besides in small towns, there is absolutely nothing to do in the winter except drink - which likely explains why so much of small town life revolves around the bars.

I would be afraid that after a few years in Wisconsin your next post may be..."help, I'm trapped in Wisconsin!" After this past January where we spent weeks at a time stuck indoors because of the cold, my husband and I are seriousely looking into moving south. Spending days on end with windchills at -40 below zero and canceling schools because it's not safe to be outside is going to be a drastic change for a Florida couple.
On the other hand..I have grown up in Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire area. It is nice in that it is all blended together. Chippewa Falls drives right into Altoon, which drives right into Eau Claire. You have universities and hospitals all around. The public Schools here are not the greatest (we started homeschooling because of it). But it is a pretty town the whole 7 months it isn't a frozen tundra.
