Moving with family to Racine, WI - Need Advice!
Im planning a move to Racine. My wife will be working in Franklin. I need to know what would be a good place to live considering a commute to those two areas, alongwith good school for my kid, overall safety and accessibility. Thanks in advance.

I would choose Caledonia, safer, nicer, closer, better.

Caledonia is a great place to live but it's part of the Racine Unified school district - major drawback. Oak Creek/Franklin schools are better. Yorkville or Union Grove schools are fine also.
Good luck with your move!

The above posts are both 'right on'. Crime and inner city problems in city of Racine (area 3-4 miles of lake). But the housing prices and taxes will be MUCH lower than Franklin / Oak Creek. Driving on Hwy 20 (which is heavy with traffic) away from the lake gets better, safer. Union Grove is a great small town but a commute to everywhere. Calendonia, again, very small, but nice and much closer to Franklin. Oak Creek good, but South Milw / Cudahy have slummy places within.

I'm not sure if you have made any decisions yet, but if you are still thinking Racine - area, I would also suggest the village of Mount Pleasant (north and west of Racine). This will put you further away from the problem areas of Racine, but still close to shopping and things to do. You can be on I-94 in a few minutes for a commute. The school system is still Racine Unified, which seems to have a bad reputation, although I do not have kids, so I can't share any specifics.

Racine has okay schools but depending on age. There is also many things to do with or without kids.

Stay out of the Racine Unified School District! Caledonia is attempting to pull out of the Unified grasp and create its own district. Petition signatures have to be sent in to the state in July
