I would seriously give Milwaukee a second look. The city has reduced many types of crime over the last few years and is not segregated as some would claim. Some of the suburbs surrounding Milwaukee county are very segregated, but Milwaukee and Milwaukee county are areas where you can find many types of people together with ease.

Like most areas of WI, Milwaukee has many wild/natural areas/parks nearby that you can get to in under an hour, but has the larger city feel available.

Good luck on your search

This goes for a lot of out of the city people who haven't been to Milwaukee in years, I used to hate Milwaukee but when I traveled and lived in different cities you realize how good you have it. If Milwaukee was like it was back in the 90's I wouldn't be here but this city has made huge strides just in the last 5yrs.

Default The Tribe of Viroqua & Unglaciated Wisconsin

I grew up in Viroqua, lived in great cities elsewhere for 20 years and recently returned to the Driftless Region and Viroqua, WI...

To me, Viroqua is a sanctuary for all us "contradictorians". Yes, there are some very conservative people here (and some radically liberal too), yes there is some ignorance and some friction from time to time, but overall, people are tolerant, reasonable, progressive and humble (what more can anyone ask for?).

Viroqua is an island, where the expectations of western society are somewhere over the horizon... still there but moderated, blunted, less mandatory.

Viroqua and the unglaciated region of SW Wisconsin (aka the "Driftless Region") offer an opportunity at free will, a chance to break away from our cult of selfishness and ego.

This is an imperfect tribe of contradictorians surrounded by some of the most incredible, undiscovered topography in North America.

Calling all like-minded folks!

Viroqua = soul + tribe + Earth.
