Default Dog Friendly

My husband and I are considering moving to what appears to be a wonderful state. I do have to admit I have run into a snag.

We have 2 shih tzus and sadly I have read some comments in other places that your state is known by some as NOT dog friendly. We were hoping to rent a house till we find the right house to buy, I have noticed that not many are willing to rent to people with dogs. You all arent allowed to take your dogs to the parks? That also makes me worry

Am I looking in the wrong places? Or is this true

Thank you very much for whatever help you can give me

I don't know where you're getting this negative information from? It would probably depend what city or town you're considering, but I consider Madison to be pet friendly.

For one, in the city, there is no restriction on the number of pets you can have. Correct, dogs aren't allowed in many public parks because people don't clean up after them, and non pet people have the right to a park atmosphere without dogs. We do however, have many dog parks in the city and state.

DogFriendly.com is a good source for state wide dog friendly information. petswelcome.com is also good.

In regards to people not wanting to rent to people with pets, that is a reality in many places, due to the damage pets can cause. You should be able to find some pet friendly rentals wherever you go with some searching. Of course you may have to pay a hefty pet deposit.

I got one of the comments from the Green Bay newspaper.

Oh thank you. I totally understand there is many lazy pet owners that doesnt want to clean up after their pet and that makes it hard on those of us that does.

I am glad to hear there is Dog parks there because from what I was reading it didnt sound like it and my dogs are like family.

There are many apartment complexes in Appleton that accept small dogs. The parks are mostly posted "no dogs" for the reasons mentioned above. Not sure if there is a dog park here or not. Will try to look into that for you.

No problem and if you go to that site and click under city guides, you can find Appleton too.

Not sure where you're looking at moving to, but I am in the market to rent a house again. I have looked at 3 houses and all of them said they would be willing to rent to me and I have a dog. My dog is similar to yours. It's a Shih tzu / Bichon (teddy bear puppy). Looking in the paper, I do see place that do say no pets in the paper though. So it's a hit and miss type ting around Wausau.

Ok this is going to seem like a strange question also and it might seem pretty stupid. I must ask thought since you have a precious doggie like we do. How do they do with the winter and going out to use the bathroom and such. I know it seems silly but that kinda concerns me. Maybe I'm just being nervous and picky about moving. Guess I'm going to finally get to put them in little coats and such lol

Its just so hard when your in another state to find a place to rent.
