FISHING any good in the Peshtigo,Oconto or Menominee Rivers (rent, work)

Hi all

Wanting info on fishing in the rivers, of Peshtigo , Oconto & Menominee as now im thinking i maybe i should buy a riverfront property for lifestyle & catch my own fresh fish n enjoy some of what the outdoors has to offer. seens as im coming over to live n chill my cute little ASS for hell knows how many years .

1 ) It appears theres no locals from the 3 rivers i asked about that come to this forum........ what a pitty

2 ) Maybe the rivers are in bad shape from industry dumping its waste , if so........... what a shame.

3 ) Maybe the locals are holding out & dont want tell everyone that its a clean river system & great for fishing so......... i dont blame them

It appears ill have to find out for myself when i get there.
out come the sunnies , sun cream , straw hat ,cooler full of beer & off we go to see if theres any fish to catch
i will say this tho if theres lots of fish imma gonna do the same as the locals & keep my mouth shut cuz ill endup been a local.

Fishing is OK, (or great, if you know where to go). Did most of my fishing on the Peshtigo; what you'll get most of is panfish (bluegills, sunfish, rock bass etc) and yellow perch, which bite best on earthworms. All of these are *delicious*. You'll also get the suckers (carp), which are big but not much in the eating department. If you do some casting with lures, you might get an occasional bass or northern pike. You'll want to have a small boat or canoe.
As for the Menominee, the selection is fairly similar. If you're moving there just now, you might still be in time for the spring smelt run on the lower part of the Menominee, i.e. inside the city limits (if this still happens, that is.-- i left there more than 20yrs ago.) The smelt are also fine eating, though a bit more work to clean.
I never fished the Oconto, but imagine it would be similar.

Just a general hint on where to find fish-- look for places where the river is very wide, current is very slow, and where there may be reeds or other obstacles for cover. The panfish can generally be gotten at a few feet off the bottom in such places. In the spring they are also often spawning very near the shores in tree-protected areas, in a foot or so of water.
