The big problems with driving in Wisconsin have nothing to do with congestion in Milwaukee, Madison, or elsewhere, because its not that bad at all and most drivers are very polite. The problems are the weather conditions and rough pavement from the cold weather. Add to that alot of fog and rain at different times of the year and interchanges that are not lighted and it makes for some tricky driving sometimes. Deer and drunk drivers don't help things either.

Well I used to live in Green Bay and now live in Milwaukee. I thought Green Bay was really nice. Super friendly people and an EXCELLENT place to raise kids. Not so much if you're a young single. The dating scene is pretty brutal. I'd say the demographics would reflect that most people living there are older, or younger and married with kids. People are right when they say it's kind of like living in another era. I'd say they're into the early 90's now. Ha!

Appleton is a better spot to be if you're single. It has a much livelier nightlife and there are more young people down there. It's more hip than Green Bay, but Green Bay is trying, or at least it was when I left a few years ago.

So if you're going to work in Green Bay I would mainly consider living in either De Pere or Ashwaubenon. I like Ashwaubenon because you're close to all the main retail in the city. Nice homes and good schools. De Pere has a little more going on as far as nicer bars and restaurants. It's not so Packers oriented as Ashwaubenon.

I would not consider driving every day from Appleton to Green Bay. People are right, in the winter that would be a mess. I know people who do it, but they don't enjoy it. And when you get spoiled with being able to get anywhere in Green Bay Metro in 10 minutes, you're going to be very bitter about a 30 minute ride home. Plus it's a super dull ride. Nothing between the two cities to look at even.
