Husband's job opportunity in Minneapolis - we're from England!!!
Hi all
We live in England and my husband has just returned from a weeks work in Minneapolis, where his company's head office is. He's talking about the opportunity to move out and I'd love some input from you all!
We have three children, aged 6, 4 and 2 and I know it would be a fabulous opportunity for them.
I know this is a dull question but would we be better off coming to live in Minnesota or Wisconscin (I guess I'm really aksing weather wise!!!)
Thanks for reading,
x

The weather is going to be the same either way. If the job is in Minneapolis, the commute would be too long to be able to live in Wisconsin. The drive from Hudson WI to St. Paul is within reason, but Minneapolis is a bit farther. There are a lot of suburbs around the city that are family friendly. I used to live over that way and heard a lot of good things about the southwest suburbs. A Brit friend of mine lives in Victoria and seems to like it.

Minnesota weather and Wisconsin weather will be basically the same in the same latitudes. It all depends on where in Wisconsin and where in Minnesota you plan to live.
For instance Milwaukee is farther south than Minneapolis-St Paul so it will be a few degrees warmer in Milwaukee on the average. Another factor to consider is how close to Lake Michigan you will live. If you plan to live within ten-fifteen miles from the lake, it will be a little cooler in the summer than farther inland.
Being a Wisconsinite, I vote for Wisconsin. Much lovilier state, definitely nicer people.

Minneapolis is farther north than most of the main population centers in Wisconsin, and it will be generally a bit colder there. I have not lived there, but a few close friends who have moved there tell it that way. Make no mistake, it's cold anywhere around here in winter.
But if the job is in Minneapolis, is it really a question? You ought to be living there in that case!

If your husband works in Minneapolis, you would want to live in the metro area. It is a great city and a good place to raise a family. The climate is less than ideal but you will adapt!!

Well, if your husband's job is going to be in Minneapolis, then you don't really have any options about where to live -- you're going to live in the Twin Cities metropolitan area, and the climate they have there is what you're going to get.

We'll having lived and being raised in both places I can't really say which one to choose.. But Hudson is part of the metro and it's sprawl til u get maybe 5 miles past Hudson. Hudson is suburbia and sprawl, some new retail or big box or fast food joint opening every other month or so. The weather will be the same. I mean its only 15 from Hudson to dwtn st paul and 25-30 to dwtn mpls. I guess, Where in England do you live, in a city or the country? I guess it also depends on what type of housing your looking for? I myself would live in the city, but im a city person. Otherwise I think another option would be SOTR(south of the river) basically south of the minnesota river. places like Burnsville, Eagan. Prior Lake , even southern Bloomington isn't that bad of an option. Now that I think about it. There's so many options in any part of the metro, If you have any questions let me know.. Oh yea and Brit's Pub downtown on Nicollet Mall is great place to have a drink and just enjoy company with friends or people watch
