Default How is the economy in your town.

I have noticed a drop in snowmobilers, and the taverns and restraunts are open, but not very crowded. I live in the north central part of the state. We have a lot of layoffs, but not alot of permanent firings as of late. A lot of two week layoffs then two weeks on, or working 3 days a week at some locations.

How is it where you are? Lots of people out on the ice this weekend with the beautiful weather. IT WAS TIME FOR SOME WARM WEATHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Berries,
My uncle who works for a parcel service is down to four day work weeks because they lost their biggest client, GM-Janesville. My other uncle is a postmaster in Green Lake County and said the economy hasn't really done much with his office, yet. One of my closest friends was layed off for good because of the economy.

Berries,
You need a warm weather vacation 'bro. Never have I heard so much "doom and gloom" come from one person. If it sucks so fricken bad where you are, than for the love of Pete, get the heck out of there. Every other word out of your mouth for the past year has been "foreclosure" or "bankrupt" or "chapter 11" or "I hate FIBS".

Here in Arizona, property values have dropped 40%, unemployment is out of control, and foreclosures are still at an all time high. Just like everywhere else. Is that what you want to hear? Are you happy? If so, than there you have it. The Northwoods is most definitely not the only area that is having trouble. With any luck, you should have the place to yourself this summer, just how you like it...

Berries,

People love bad news, it makes them feel good by 'worrying." People worry about economy, people worry about their kids getting nabbed on the street, people worry about global warming, the list goes on and on and on.

This is why they voted for the Obamatron. He spouts how bad it is morning, noon and night. Even to the point of silliness i.e.: "If you don't pass my bill - there will be catastrophe."

I find it quite funny how Bush was criticized early on in his tenure for "talking down the economy." Media claimed if the president keeps talking about how bad things are, people may start believing it. That is no way for a President to talk!!

Now on the other hand, with black Jesus in charge, we cannot dare challenge or doubt his "brilliance"

Therefore I contend we now live in a country where a lot of people love to be "miserable" and claim victimization?

We have had tons of visitors up our way. And we went to the Badger State Games and the hotels were packed. We are heading to the Dells this weekend and couldn't get into our 1st 2 choices, they were both booked.
My brother put a bid in on a home up here. It is about 50 miles from us on the water. He is in Atlanta but wants to retire this way. He figures it is a great time to buy. I am excited that we will see him more.

Awesome, Kate! It will be nice to have your brother closer, cool! I, for one, am always glad to hear that places are busy and people are doing weekend getaways!

I've noticed some of the hotels/motels around here are starting to pick up business, too, a very good thing!

I know that the further DH gets from Appleton, the larger the orders he gets from his customers. Too much competition in Appleton and the store managers/buyers are scared to order much merchandise and potentially get stuck with it.
