New Richmond these days is basically a distant Twin Cities suburb, jump on 94 and be in St. Paul in 25 minutes. The weather is identical to MN, freezing cold winter, hot humid summer, excellent fall. Entertainment is basic small town fare with the added advantage of easy access the Twin Cities.

HI Double thanks for the great post. I've found a place with all the features that I was looking for I'm just not sure that New Richmond is the place that I should really want to settle in. Minnesotas nice but I've also had most of my fun up and down the cities and suburbs already. I don't know why but the winters just seem almost unbearable after a while. Well I'm going to visit the lot soon so I'll probably make a better decision then. We're also thinking maybe Eau Claire or Appleton. So we'll seeee okay thanks

Default New Richmond

I have lived in or around New Richmond for 20 years.

The weather, of course, is exactly the same as the Twin Cities area as the town is only 25 minutes away.

In the last few years with many Minnesotans moving to the area, and the Roberts and Hudson areas, the "people factor" is much the same as the Twin Cities area.

I live East of New Richmond about an hour or so and the people seem friendlier, but that's just me. Life here is more relaxed, but of course, besides bowling, going to the local pub, or seeing a movie, around here the entertainment value is low if you are used to big city life. But, that is why most folks live here, they aren't into the big city life.

I really like Eau Claire. It is a college town so lots of "young folk" but there is lots to do.

Just do a search for both cities here on City data and you can get population info. etc.

Good luck with your decision.

I pretty much grew up in New Richmond. I was a band geek and happier practicing my instrument than doing anything else, so I never really noticed that there wasn't much to do, but there really isn't much as far as entertainment. I went to college in Eau Claire for 2 years, again as a music major so I spent most of my time in a practice room...but there is a lot more to do there. I don't know what you like to do, but there is more of every type of entertainment compared to New Richmond, since it is quite a bit bigger. I don't really know anything about Appleton, other than that I have never heard any major complaints about it. The weather for anywhere in Wisconsin will be pretty similar to the weather in MN.

Very clannish small town. High taxes and typical nepotism. I am origanally from the west coast and this is culture shock at its finest. I pay $3.11/sq foot of living space in taxes. nuff said.

Default New Richmond

I was born in New Richmond and i think it's a great place to live. Nice stores, neighborhoods, parks. There's The Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College campus in city limits, plus it's practically in the Twin Cities. It's close to Maplewood mall and has a really nice hospital in town. New Richmond is the perfect city to live in.
