Your protestations are noted. So are your priorities.

Happy EARTH Day!!!!!
Hello all again, earlier in this thread there was a challenge to all to pick up trash near your home, work, or community. Does anyone have a plan for today? My partner and I will be planting 3 trees, and we will pick up trash again. Our last stretch of trash pick up yielded 6 large kitchen bags full, carrying it home each time was harder than we thought, but we used the experience as an excercise. Hope you all find a way to make the world a better place today. Belive me every little bit helps, even just putting trash in the trash can instead of our highways, roads, and city streets. Keep up the good fight, let the rest settle. HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!!!

I'm growing to dislike Oshkosh more and more each day. This is one dirty, run-down, decaying city.
I have been picking up trash every weekend, but it seems never-ending. It's more than one person can handle. And the cigarette butts number in the thousands all along the side of the road (come on smokers...get some class and use an ashtray for heaven's sake ).
I would like to move to Appleton, but my husband and I are not in a position work-wise to move right now. It just wouldn't make sense to take on long commutes for either of us.
Besides, I've already gotten my hubby to commit to moving out of Wisconsin to a warmer state one day. We can't move right now (probably won't be able to move for about 10 years), but I'm SO looking forward to the day when I can wear flip-flops in the winter again. I don't want to go back to California (been there, done that). I'd like to try Arizona or Florida or somewhere nice and HOT.
In the meantime, I'm here in Wisconsin, and I'll make the best of it. And I'll keep on picking up trash in this blasted dump (WHERE does it all come from??)

And to think it was such a short time ago you were singing Wisconsins praises and claiming you would never leave I knew you wouldn't stick around...too bad so sad
Really though are smokers one of the last groups that it's okay to ridicule and place stereotypes on along with fat people??? Would it be okay for me to chastise atheists and gays in the same manner??
I'm sure every smoker doesn't throw their butts haphazardly helter skelter along the roadside and btw it is legal, so what's with the holier than thou attitude that smokers are some kind of alien criminal?
You said it yourself...apparently you live in a dump. I think it's rude you feel it's okay to collectively pass judgement on all smokers or even to assume I must be a smoker, just because I didn't join in bashing smokers and thought this thread was rather pompous in nature.

It seems you have a mixed message and again provide fuel for others to antagonize you. You had a good thing going, then you toss in the above quote, why? If you plan to be here ten years, try a fresh approach an overhaul per say of your views or style of expression. Just a suggestion to you FCG who seems to have mostly decent motives, but bad form. ,

Gold dust....it wouldn't matter what I say, you're going to bash me. You have taken a disliking to me, and you respond to almost all my posts with some sort of nasty comeback.
I'm not going to fuel your fire by defending myself. I said nothing wrong. It's just my opinion, and I'm entitled to it.

There are no mixed messages here. I simply have not formed a hard and fast opinion about Wisconsin in an instant. I've only been here two years, and I'm still experiencing and learning about it. There are many things I like about this state, and many more I do not. It's not black and white.

Didn't read all the posts but in case nobody mentioned it - at Harbor Freight (or other places) you can buy a picker-upper, grabber, thingamajig. Its about 3' feet long, has a handle/lever on one end and 2 suction type grabbers on the other end. Squeeze handle and it'll pick up cigarette butts, litter, pop cans, whatever, without getting hands dirty or having to bend over. You can buy one for under $5. Also great for when cutting grass with a lawn tractor for picking up twigs/stones without getting off of tractor.

Just remembered something - about 2 years ago here in the Wausau area, on Hwy 29, a police officer was behind a car that threw a cigarette butt out of car window. He stopped car and on further investigation discovered items in car that were stolen in burglary - IIRC these people were from Appleton area.
