Looking for cost of living info..
Hi,
My family has been looking at relocating to Sheboygan. I realize housing is reasonable but I was curious as to how much people pay for other things such as gas, electricity, water, garbage, phone, etc. I would appreciate any input.
Thank you, Jennifer

Please, can't someone help me out here??
I will take info from anywhere in WI, just to get an idea.
My energy bill usually runs from $100 in winter to $250 in summer here in CA.
I'm guessing that would be in reverse there or more?
Please, someone answer me!!!

Well I can't give you any specifics on Sheboygan (or WI for that matter) but there are tons of cost-of-living comparators out there. Some are better than others. Here's one to get you started:

Gasoline is anywhere from $1.99 to $2.10 a gallon in Sheboygan today.

Thank you bluescreen73. I will take a look at that and see if it can help.
It looks like gas is just a little less than here in CA.

Moving to Sheboygam from California won't require a great deal of adjustment except for the winter weather of course. I think you'll find energy costs to be similar. If you buy, property taxes will see reasonable to you even though they are exorbitant in my opinion.
We lived in Sheboygan for 46+ years but when we retired, we chose to move to the Ozarks. Our entire fixed costs here (phone, electricity (we have an all electric house), cell phone, internet service, satelite TV, auto and home insurance and taxes) are about the same as we escrowed for taxes and insurance alone in Wisconsin.
There we had a 1600 sq. ft, 35-year old ranch home on 1/2 acre of land w/3 bedrooms, 2 baths and our property taxes were about $3500 a year. Here we have a new home on 3 acres of land, 2500 square foot ranch with a finished garden level, 4 bedrooms, 3 baths and we pay $900 a year in property tax.

Thank you Nu2pomona. I did see that property taxes were very high. We are looking to downsize and buy a home in the 100 year old range and it looks as if the property taxes will be similar to what we pay here and we have a newer2800 sq ft house on 1/2 acre. I understand that the schools are rated very high, and the city seems to be kept in nice order, so maybe that is the reason for taxing high? I have only visited during winter, my husband has been in both summer and winter. Did you enjoy living in Sheboygan?
Any information you can give me is appreciated.
Thanks again, Jennifer

Yes, I did enjoy living in Sheboygan. We were just back there for a visit. It is a beautiful city. There were so many changes in the past two years, I couldn't believe it. There seemed to be new stores, new restaurants, and new recreation options everywhere we went. Frankly, when we lived there I didn't appreciate how clean the city is. The pride people take in home ownership is evident and in sharp contrast to what we see here in the Ozarks. No washing machines and old sofas on the front porch there.
If it weren't for the weather and the taxes, we'd still be there.

I would say outside of Dane, Milwaukee, Waukesha counties, cost of living is very reasonable.

We actually made the move from California just over a week ago.
Right now we are staying in a hotel til our house closes.
The area is beautiful, the weather is great. Right now I am just having trouble trying to learn my way around, I seem to get lost easily, but with the numbered streets it is really easy to find your way back. And getting lost lets me explore other areas.
