10 bars and an Arby's? Huh? Judging by that bizarre comment, I'm going to guess that you have never actually stepped foot in the City of Appleton before. Especially since there aren't any fast food restaurants located in downtown Appleton, let alone an Arby's. Face it bud, everybody in Wisconsin thinks the City of Green Bay is a toilet.

See, now I know you haven't even been here. Not that it's a glory point, but there's more bars and night clubs than the much larger Madison, according to CNN Money's city polls. And... where exactly is Arby's downtown? There's one on Wisconsin by hwy 41... I think there's one on Calumet st, also by the highway. Way off the downtown area (thank goodness).
So on a more positive note to the original poster because we don't want to seem unfriendly or derail the thread , there are actually many great restaurants in Appleton's downtown including but not limited to: Victoria's, Pullman's, Tapas, Sciroco's, Il Angolo, The Appolon, Kautsu Ya, Taste of Thai, The Queen Bee, Cafe on the Ave, Fratellos on the water, Frank's Pizza, Dong Po, Flannigan's, The Good Company, and that's just what I can think of now - there has to be a good 10-15 more restaurants or lunch cafe's that I haven't been to and therefore can't think of, who knows how many bar & grills, maybe 20, there's probably 5 or 10 coffee houses too. It's all within a few blocks of each other, nearly all are right on College Ave or just one block off.
And for the record, there are in fact two fast food joints downtown on The Ave - a Subway and a Jimmy Johns. Shoot, there's a Topper's Pizza. So that makes 3. No Arby's though

Well you'd have an intimate familiarity with "ill-mannered," that's for certain.

Yes, you've certainly expressed an intimate knowledge of the area.
(still waiting on that downtown Arby's location though )
Speaking of drunks though, for the original poster, downtown is actually very well policed on weekend nights. Things are always kept very orderly at bar times. And for the record I live within walking distance to the area so I've got, y'know, first hand experience of it

The corner of College Ave and Wisconsin Avenue.
