What the hell do you need 12 lanes for? What do you need 3 exit lanes for? It's like they're planning on Green Bay growing to like 2 million people in the near future.

Exactly, it is laughable. Hwy 41 will cost almost $1 Billion in 2 separate sections, Winnebago County & Brown County. We will be the only professional sports city to have roundabouts at the Lombardi exit on 41 LOL. That will be a clusterf*ck on gameday. People here are split on the roundabouts. The mayor of Carmel, Indiana (known as the roundabout capitol of US) spoke to people at a meeting here this past week to show support for the roundabouts. 44 roundabouts will go up in Brown County/Winnebago County.
There is also a strong push for HSR (high speed rail) here. Once they get Chicago-MKE-Madison taken care of first. Then it will be onto Phase 2 - MKE-Madison-Twin Cities and then 3rd phase is MKE to GB/Appleton/Fox Valley. They expect this in 10 or so years. I have been talking to Senator Herb Kohl about this lately.

My in-laws live in Carmel so I've had experience with the roundabouts there. I greatly favor them over other forms of intersection control when the traffic volume on each road is roughly the same, but there's such a thing as overkill. I don't understand the need for 298 of them to control traffic between grade-separated limited-access sections of highway. Conventional cloverleafs and "C/Ds" (to use your parlance ) work just fine. I'm also not sure what they're doing with the combined roundabout/grade-separated intersections along Keystone in Carmel. I haven't been on a completed one yet (I don't know if any of them are complete), but they seem a bit excessive to me. The cost to build them has been astronomical. But at least I can understand them there where they don't have the space for cloverleafs and C/Ds. But from what I understand there's a roundabout at each end where the interchange ramps meet the cross street, but also one in the middle, on the bridge over the highway. I just don't get the point of that since there's no intersection on top of the bridge to guide traffic through/around.
ETA: Good Christ, Carmel's roundabouts even have their own damn website: http://www.carmelroundabouts.com/

This will never be built their is no reason for a 12 lane highway in GB or anywhere near GB the population just is nowhere near what it needs to be to justify the cost.

As far as I know, this is not just a proposal any more; it's a done deal that's gonna happen.

Wow, am I glad I re-checked this thread! Are they kidding here with this highway project? I mean... I'm at a loss for words. I just can't believe it. I don't know what to say.

Why not build a bullet train from Milwaukee to GB for that price?
Are our government officials nuts?

WOW, obviously some ones from Green Bay area. Neenah and Menasha are not what your expletive comment stated. They are also fine communities. The area cities and towns that surround Appleton are great places to live. Appleton has the Performing Arts Center, Great shopping (Fox River Mall) and many other community minded activities.
Both Green Bay and Appleton areas are good places to live. The job preference would probably be better in Appleton.
