Default That highway project is unreal

I'm all for infrastructure projects but honestly, that project may be the biggest waste of money ever. And it's just plain a bad idea. Can you imagine all those roundabouts working in a town where half the population is 75+ years old. That is going to be complete chaos. Not to mention the population of the Green Bay "Metro" is nowhere near large enough to have that type of a highway.

I suppose they think they need it because they are catering to the crowd who feels the need to drive 50 miles each way to get to work. Or for those 8 sundays a year when there's a game.

By that logic they should make a 12 lane highway right through the middle of Madison so that traffic doesn't back up at camp randall.

I've seen a similarly ridiculous project going on in Wausau in which the entire town has been torn up for about 3 years, and all they get is weekend traffic on highway 51.

I guess it's a continuation of Tommy Thompson's vision of 4 lane highways to nowhere all over the state. Pick two cities and build a 4 lane divided highway between them. Now they are making those 4 lane highways into 12.

99% of the highway money should be going to 3 things:
1. Reducing congestion in places that need it, like Milwaukee and Madison
2. Resurfacing interstate highways
3. Improving safety on old rural roads that are completely outdated.

Instead they take a highway that needs NO improvements and try and make it into downtown chicago. What a joke.

As someone who commutes U.S. 41 in Brown County on a daily basis, this project is necessary. Maybe 12 lanes seems like a bit much, but they are going to do the project, so why do it half-assed? Future planning for an area of the state that is still growing is the smart thing to do.

As for the round-a-bouts, I'm not a fan of them. However freeway expansion is needed badly, especially in the Velp Ave. through Scheuring Rd. stretch. The WI 29 interchange is badly in need of a total re-configuration and the I-43 interchange is dated.

Hey if you guys up there in the FXV get wide freeways then we in Milwaukee should get them first where we actually need them. We have all 3 lane freeways with areas with 4. Granted the south side is getting 4 lanes each way from the Mitchell interchange down to the ILL state line.

I-94 is getting a huge upgrade on the southside, I'm not sure what you're complaining about. I had to dirve through Milwaukee on a daily basis for work and I lived there for two years and the freeways weren't too bad. The Marquette interchange just got finished and the only problem left I can think of is I-43 Northbound after Silver Spring going down to four lanes.

Try taking I-94 Northbound turning westbound at 522pm everyday or taking I94 from Bluemound to BayView at 5 or going from Brookfield to Oak Creek via 94-894-94south. All I'm saying that especially during event's in the summer and holidays and Christmas time it gets bad and with all the grass right next to the freeways I think they can expand it to 5 lanes each way, traffic won't decrease in years to come it's only going to get worse.

Some people who live in smaller towns like Green Bay have no sense of "traffic". They think of a traffic jam as not being able to drive 55 all the time, if they have to slow down at all it's a traffic jam. Is it 10 miles per hour or less during almost every morning and evening commute? then it's a problem. I bet it isn't. When I spent a year in that area (granted it was 8 years ago) there was no such thing as a traffic report. The people who complain about the traffic are the ones who live 50 miles away and drive in on a two lane road. Then they complain when they get behind a tractor - forgetting that they made the decision to drive 50 miles each way every day on a road not designed for large volumes of traffic. I could see a big project if they were getting rid of stoplights on highway 41 but there aren't any. Whoever approved that project should be fired.

from dot website "In 2005, traffic volumes ranged from 47,700 to 79,700 vehicles per day." we have roads in minnesota that carry more volume that still have stoplights on them. there is absolutely no need. getting rid of cross traffic and putting interchanges to improve safety makes sense but they are going far beyond that.

Wellstone, re-read my two posts and realize why yours makes no sense.

hello,

wanted to say thank you for everyone who replied to my original post on here...my husband and I ended up renting a place in east de pere which seems like a nice area...eventually we plan to buy a house so we'll have to see how things go as far as what areas would be a good place to permanently reside. I'm looking forward to the hwy 41 project and can't wait for it to be completed...I think in the the long run the new hwy will definitely improve the current traffic flow and hopefully reduce accidents...after having a few near death experiences driving on 41(not my fault), I had to find some alternative routes.
