I believe it is derived from an inferiority complex rather than from being angry that they throw trash in their parks.

sure
yeah, bettyboop is probably fondy hater, or whatever. don't listen about people being unfriendly, people here are friendly.
I think most of the people that rip on WI in a forum like this and say people here are unfriendly are pretty much showing their personality, and why would somebody be friendly to somebody who is so negative? WI people are just like everybody else, if you are nice people will be friendly to you, if not they will tend to avoid you, and appear unfriendly. This post has the word unfriendly in it way too many times.

one more thing
I'm a WI resident and I like IL drivers, they drive fast and at least after passing someone they get back in the right lane
get in with a group of IL drivers and pretty soon you are all going 90 MPH on the freeway, makes drive time a lot shorter

Yes, you should move to WI
We have lived here for 12 years. Moved from Atlanta, GA, Williamsport, PA and Boston, MA. Born in Huntinton, Long Island.
Out of all the places I have lived, WI is my home. They have terrific schools if you have kids and great state colleges too....Taxes are a little high, but you get what you pay for....We live in Neenah, WI and love it....Let me know if you need me to get you any information.
Good luck.

Wisconsin
I have lived in Wisconsin all my life and in the LaCrosse area for 10 years. Get ready for a culture shock from NY. The people here are not very friendly, the job market and pay sucks, especially for teachers. The property taxes are outragous, alot of churches and bars, odd mix. Very unprofessional city, no formal wear restaurants, attorneys don't wear suits,no manners, ect.Mostly hicks and a high amount of asian decent. No culture here at all, but they put on a good front. For Wisconsin I think Madison would be a better choice for a move. Higher paying jobs and actual jobs available. It seems like the past time here or should I say most of the time is to go to the 100's something taverns here.I am ready to get out of here already.

Just a quick correction: UWM is the University of Wisconsin MILWAUKEE. Madison is just considered UW!

I vote for Manitowoc. It is a beautiful city with a strong infrastructure taking this community to the next level. My husband and I moved here 3 years ago, and we felt immediately welcome everywhere we went.
i could tell you much more, but I have to run now.
i[ll tell you later. Bye.

When you say wages suck in La Crosse, what is the average wage for a professional type job? I am a social worker in Montana right now, where the average wage is $10/hour and the average home is 250,000. Please tell me that La Crosse cost of living is better than this.
Thanks

Try WI first
antipode12,
Please visit Wisconsin to judge for yourself. Fly in, spend 3 or 4 days and rent a car. Visit Milwaukee, Madison and Appleton. By the way, the Fox River has been cleaned up in the last few years and has lovely fish and is safe to live near...you are not drinking out of it!
Being from NY, you will definitely have culture shock, but those 3 cities all have much to offer in the way of diversity, cultural offerings(symphony, ballet, museum, etc), excellent restaurants, friendly people, beautiful scenery). You will get the most for your dollar in Appleton though....excellent schools, great teachers, low unemployment, huge expansion project for downtown area. Many new restaurants, hotels, etc.
As for Colorado, it is very beautiful...very expensive. If you ski...alot, you will probably like it there.
Wisconsin and Colorado both have the 4 seasons like NY. The winter is not as long as everyone complains that it is. If you are bored, that is your own fault. If you are friendly, possibly volunteer in your community, have hobbies, etc, you shouldn't have a problem.
Good luck!

antipode12,
Hi, I forgot to give you some websites to check out about Appleton/Fox Cities. www.jefflindsay.com/appleton (broken link), www.focol.org, www.appleton.org, www.foxcities.org, www.lawrence.edu, www.foxcitiespac.com, www.appletondowntown.org.
Very informative...better than some of these people's opinions. Don't listen to the negatives, please do some research and visit to see for yourself.
Good luck!
