We are friends so I will go easy, I love humidity I don't know why or how. I went out to Reno,NV for two weeks and my nose and throat hurt every day. I had the hotel bring up a humidifier and in my house year round I keep the humidifier going around the clock and since I lived in Boca for year I guess I'm just used to it. I don't think I human maybe chameleon but not normal that's for sure. When I was in Reno I got a bloody nose everyday I was there, way to dry out there for me and it was in Oct.

The slowpaced, small town, country life is what I like best about Wisconsin. It takes me a couple of days to adjust every time I visit from Phoenix. No road rage, crime, crowds, sirens, illegals, etc to deal with. I was never bored growing up in the country. There were always plenty of things to do at home without always having to drive somewhere to get away. Wisconsin humidity is just right, more than Arizona but not extreme like Florida. Can't wait to move back and lower my blood pressure. Again the country life with lots of land in Wisconsin is what I like. If I wanted to live in the city, I'm not sure I would want to move back to Wisconsin.

We moved here from Chicago. When we moved, about 21 years ago our taxes dropped in half of what we paid in Chicago. Now they are still about $1000 less then Chicago.
We moved here because we wanted a slower pace, less traffic etc.

Why live in Wisconsin? Simple...The beauty.
We moved 5 years ago to the craphole that is Iowa(Cedar Rapids). We are actually back in Wisconsin today for a weekend visit. Our whole attitude changes the minute we enter Wisconsin(we take 151). It's like entering another country. There's landscape, hills, nature, color. We get so excited when we come back to visit. When we enter Iowa on the way back, we get that pit in our stomachs.
Wisconsin winters..ppfffttt. We were born tough in Wisconsin. Wisconsin has nothing on Iowa when it comes to winter. Ice storms constantly, leaving over an inch of ice everytime. Being trapped in your house every weekend because they close the town down with 4 inches of snow. I don't kid either, I've never seen schools close so much in my life. It would take at least 15 inches of snow back when I went to school to close. Iowa winters suck!
For those of you that don't like living in Wisconsin, we'll trade places with you anyday.
I bought a t-shirt today in Madison...It was a no brainer for a purchase. I'll wear it proudly like I do my other 20 Wisconsin t-shirts/sweatshirts.

That's why I'm different, I go out to the country and every one says wow isn't the trees and hill so pretty and to me it not. To me the country is boring and I don't need to go to the country to see trees I go to city parks. For me the countryside just isn't that special, most of the country area wise is rural and to me it all looks the same, I'd rather take a family trip to New York City or LA than go camping and "work" all weekend. I'm a hotel kinda guy not a Coleman kinda guy.
But like I said I think I might be the only one who thinks this way.

Different people like different things. No right or wrong. Lots of people can't live without having malls and other city things nearby. When I was single, living in Phoenix was great for partying and women, but that's about it.

Our house, in the 2nd poorest county in the state (Marquette) is valued at $350,000. Our taxes are ~ $5200.00. I think that is pretty high, but I love my house. I have looked all over for somewhere I'd like to move to, but can't find anything comparable to WI for wages vs cost of living, etc. I'm an RN, so I can pretty much find work anywhere. At least in WI you can get the small town life, yet be close to the city if you like more urban entertainment.
UW Badger, what did your shirt say? (you didn't tell us).
Milwaukee City, I used to be the same way til my husband convinced to try camping. I like the fact that I can roll out of the tent, just wears swimsuits all weekend and cover my "camping" bad hair with a baseball cap. It's more relaxing. I do still like the city.

I'm actually headed to Rural Louisiana to go camping at a state park there, and if you have ever been to a swamp before you know the bugs are the loudest thing there and they are size of humans. I maybe doing the old adage baptism by fire. So wish me luck I'm just happy I'm going somewhere warm...87 and 60% humidity!
I hear what you mean by cheap living in the country yet close to the city, I would do this but I'm still too young to retire when I get my Buick and my golf membership I'll probably retire to a very small town b/c I might turn into a grumpy old man and I will be to irritable to deal with people.

I forgot to mention in my post that we miss seeing LAKES! We are having the best time being back. It's going to be hard to go back to Iowa on Sunday, that's for sure.

Sadly, there has been a dearth of semi-credible, power companies immigrating into Wisconsin whatsoever - from IL or anywhere else.
For the scattered companies that may have trickled into WI from IL, I would imagine the incredible rate of taxation in IL may have something to do with it...although, frankly, WI in many regards has equally horrible tax rates.
Remember, for any "Company X" that headed from IL to WI, you'll have a MillerCoors, etc., that chooses Chicago for its HQs over MKE.
Really though, beyond WI / IL, the true movement of business and industry has been severely AWAY from us up here in WI to other regions of the nation...not INTO the region. Taxation, an oppresive and hostile government climate towards business, and a self-defeating union heritage of business up here are all significant and predominant reasons why this is occurring.
