Tell us about Lomira...
I know it's a very small town, so there probably isn't much to tell. However, my fiance and I are looking at relocating there around April-ish. I teach in Berlin, and she teaches in Grafton, so we are looking for something somewhat in between. We aren't planning on buying a house yet, we still have loans and cars to pay off before we want to do that, so it'll be another 2-3 years before we start looking at school systems and taxes and things like that...basically we're just looking for a nice apartment complex to crash in for a couple years until we are ready for a family/house somewhere in Wisconsin. I saw two complexes/townhomes online that seem to fit our needs, they are probably the only ones in town (Oak something and Park Place, I think). We are looking for something that offers an attached garage, 1 and a half or two baths, a/c, and washer/dryer in unit. Is there anything else about Lomira we should know?
I'm from Appleton and she's from the north Milwaukee suburbs, so moving to somewhere like Lomira will certainly take some adjusting for both of us!
Thanks for any help/advice you can offer!

I would suggest Allenton but I have been to Lomira and it seems very nice but I'd rather be closer to Milwaukee.

I used to live in Lomira. It's not too bad, for a tiny little town. Right on the freeway, there's a grocery store, gas stations, etc. so you aren't completely out in the sticks. If you are a night owl, though, you will be out of luck: they roll up the sidewalks at about 7PM.

We're really not the nigh owl types. Heck, I spend most of my nights watching sports on tv, and she spends most of her nights playing games on facebook. So, I guess we aren't too concerned about that, and if need be, we can meet friends in West Bend and such.
Allenton wouldn't be so bad either, but I don't see much for rental properties there? We're looking at something that can offer 2 bedrooms, 1 and a half baths, a garage, and laundry in the unit. I think I saw something behind the Mobil station last time I was through there. Not sure what those are called, or if they have a website?

Be sure to buy all your Brats at Hoffs Red Owl store in Brownsville. Lots of other butcher-shop goodies there too, but the Brats are wonderful and incredibly cheap.

what are you looking to know? truthfully I don't think it will be a ton different from Berlin...it will be a bit smaller but you are actually a lot "closer" to a lot of places just because of Hwy 41...they have a pretty sweet golf course if you are into golfing...if you are really into sports there is actually a wood bat league team that plays in Brownsville which has an amazing field as well and has hosted the state legion tournmanet a few times...Lomira is expanding...even if its doing so slowly...I grew up about 5-10 miles from Lomira so I know a lot of good people there...Lomira might not have a ton to offer in terms of "events" but when you incorporate a few of the smaller towns around it such as Knowles, Brownsville and maybe even Byron to an extent you have more then enough community events...and if all of that fails just get on 41 and go to Fond du Lac, the Fox Valley, West Bend, or Milwaukee
I would personally take Lomira over Allenton...I just think Allenton is a smaller Lomira and IMO it seems a bit "dirty"...and relatives I have that live near the area always have great stories about the locals that live in Allenton

TAB, thank you for your reply. I know, there's not a lot one can offer about the town, because it is so small, but I appreciate your take on it. Like I said, we're looking at it as just a temporary move for a year or two until we're ready to buy a house in a larger community (West Bend, Germantown, Slinger, etc.). Still though, it's nice to hear from people that actually like Lomira and that it does have some things to offer, even if they are limited. Now...hopefully we can find a 2 bedroom / 2 car garage / with laundry rental unit that we are looking for this spring....they seem to fill up fast...
