We have lived in a number of places. You can rule out 2 places we lived, upstate NY and NH, both have snowier winters and taxes are a killer.
Right now Oregon has a very high unemployment rate. And the rain in January is worse then snow, in my opinion.
I would point you towards either the Carolinas. I also lived in Missouri for a long time and the winters are a little more moderate.
Good Luck!

Oooh sounds nice EP, how is the COL?

Having lived in Wisconsin, rural, small town, and a few of it's cities, And, having moved away to places like Miami, New Orleans, Denver, I always returned to Wisconsin. Now however, due to a health issue I'm moving to warmer climes. Namely rural/small(ish) town Georgia. This time I truly
think I'll enjoy my move away from Wis.! Being a small town/country guy at heart. Those major cities I listed earlier, just didn't have the mind set I look for. Several of the posted mentioned the 'Wisconsin Culture', heck, I can buy beer and cheese anywhere! And after 50 winters...I am so ready for Warm! If I want to see snow, the internet will be just fine with me. But for anyone who can stand sub-zero weather? Wisconsin IS a Beautiful State! Once A Wisconsinite, Always a Wis...

I spent about two months in the Carolina's earlier this year after I lost my job here in GB. As soon as my house here sells, I'm moving down there. I visited many cities in both NC & SC and settled on Columbia, SC. I have the beach 1-1/2 to the east and the mountains 2 hours to the west. Needless to say a sister an hour and half from Columbia as well.

The people down south are so nice, I was just so impressed! Sure, you have the bible thumpers but they leave you alone and respect your beliefs. Columbia is a big college city, much like Madison so it adds a good mix of diversity to the usually convservative southern cities.

The weather is very hot and humid in July & August, but like WI never gets humid...hahahahaha!
I'll take two months of hot weather vs 6 months of winter anyday. Especially the last two WI winters, they have been absolutely horrible. Temps have been way below normal even May & June, too. Heck, last week my heat was running...ugg, someone buy my house so I can move

You might like northern Arizona arround Flagstaff or Sedona. Summers are mild and sunny. Winters are snowy but daytime highs are usually above freezing and you're only an hour or 2 drive to the valley where it's sunny and 70's when winter gets to be too much. The scenery is breathtaking and you still get all the seasons up in the high country. Streams lakes and forests are in abundance.
We live in the valley south of Phoenix right now after having moved from Green Bay. We drive up to northern AZ whenever we can. That area reminds us the most of Wisconsin only you have the added bonus of amazing mountain backdrops and if your in Sedona the famous red rocks.

I left Wisconsin a really long time ago, but still have family there. I don't like going back to Wisconsin. I find Wisconsin to be very rigid, where everyone expects conformity. Wisconsin seems to be steeped in rules and regulations, which everyone follows, and I feel regimented when Im there. Wisconsin people are very provincial---the only thing they know about the rest of the world is how awful Illinois drivers are.
