I remember the "front room"...otherwise known as the living or family room. I don't know of anywhere other than Wisconsin that has "front rooms". LOL

Many of the French Canadians in Maine refer to the LR as the "front room". I would guess the same would occur in any State that borders eastern Canada especially.
Until we moved here, we had never heard of cheese curds, fish boils or the Friday fish thing so I think it's safe to say they are definitely regional.

LOL!!! I remember this when I was a kid, everyone in my family used to call it the "front room" but maybe you can confirm this as well, maybe it's a south side polish accent thing but the "front room" pronunciation got turned into the "frunchroom" we were saying the front room but we said it like "frunch room"
Was this my family or did any one else notice the "front room" pronunciation turned into the "frunchroom" it's like we put the "ch" in the word which is common in the polish language when pronouncing certain words.
This must be a south side thing b/c I noticed other families in the area of muskego/becher pronouncing it the same way.

I never knew what a "banister" or "vanity" was when I grew up Wisconsin. They were "railings" and "mirrors".

Nope, it's Norwegian in derivation. More of them in Wisconsin than Minnesota, where Swedes reign.
It can mean "Oh My", to "Ah f***", depending upon who is saying it, and context.
But let me ask you about Norwegians:
Why are they called "Jornes" (pronounced: Yoorney) in NE Wisconsin, and "Norskies" about everywhere else?
At least in the Central and SW parts of the state.
Anybody know?
