Yes, Suburpia Subs - those were the first subs I ever had too. Found one by accident - on Blue Mound not too far from Wisc. Lutheran College - and yes, you definitely have to leave them in the bag - that's very important!!!!

Brandy, especially as substitute for whiskey in drinks. While it's hardly unique to the state, Wisconsin is by far the #1 brandy market in the U.S. According to Korbel, 1/3rd of its worldwide brandy distribution goes to Wisconsin. Then there's the substituting it for whiskey, as in brandy sour, brandy old-fashioned, etc. Comedian Lewis Black even talks about it (and Wisconsin's drinking culture in general) in this clip (WARNING: salty language, listener discretion is advised). There's been a trend in the craft-brewing industry to take a batch of a darker style beer (usually a stout or porter) and age it in used bourbon barrels -- so leave it to one Wisconsin brewery (Tyranena) to come up with the idea of using brandy barrels instead.

Pamida is still around. I'm not sure I'd consider it part of Wisconsin culture though since it started in Iowa, is headquartered in Nebraska, and Wisconsin is one of their smaller markets. IMO better examples of Wisconsin contributions to the general retail-store concept would be Shopko and Mills Fleet Farm.

When I went to school at Marquette I literally lived above Real Chili and right across the street from Suburpia. Wisconsin Heaven. I remember that salty, spicy oil that was on the bottom of every suburpia sandwich bag. Wouldn't mind a suburpia sandwich right about know. I think my favorite sandwiches were the Davey Jones Locker and Cattle Baron. ah memories

I found their menu...they are on Prospect and North, Bluemound/Hwy 100 in Wauwatosa, and Hwy T/Silvernail in Waukesha! Go while you can!
The names are Classic, Gold Coast, Miles standish (my fav) Reuben James, Davey Jones, Cattle Baron, Natural Wonder, King Louie, The Camp David, The White House, and Chauncey Gardener! Clever names for sure!

For some reason, the biggest portrayal of Wisconsin is That 70's Show. That is not the Wisconsin I vividly remember. I remember Milwaukee. There is small-town Wisconsin.
