Need HELP; Neighbors Cows keep coming over
Hello All, I am at my wits end with my neighbors and their cows. First, I really like my neighbors, but their cows keep getting out and have been working their way through our new landscaping for almost a month now. I have informed my neighbor each time of them coming over; many times I actually had to drive to my neighbor’s house at 2am to inform them their cows were out. I am not interested in providing a buffet for them to continue to munch on, but we have 15 acres and to keep them out fully I would have to fence ALL 15 acres. I need a little friendly advice on how best to approach my neighbor in regard to what this situation is leading to. I do not want to have to fence all 15 acres, especially since I have offered to allow my neighbor to farm the land I am not using for hay and corn for his cows. If his cows keep damaging my landscaping though, I will have to negate my offer for my own self preservation purposes. The landscaping is being put into place to provide for my family’s retirement business, these things will be potted up and sold with our other garden and fruit trees produce. So, this is not just an annoyance it is a loss of money, time, and effort now and for our future. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Check with your local garden store for predator urine products. Fleet Farm might be a good place to look too. I've heard of spraying such things to keep animals such as deer and rabbits away, nothing specifically for cows though. Good luck.

Not a bad idea, you could eat very well for a whole month. Try a bear trap that might work as well.

When his cows are missing, one by one, he'll fix his fence...plus, you can eat well!

I'm not from Wisconsin ( MN), but here you contact your township supervisors and they will have a talk with him.

Following the trails....
My neighbor came over this morning and I pointed out where the cow prints are and what plants they ate. He commented there was no way it was his cows, must be some other cows, lol. First, his cows have come over at least seven times in 6 weeks, second I started tracing the steps with him and we walked across two corn fields between our house and his, guess what, the prints led to his land. He basically shook his head and I am sure he will check his fences again today. I am sincerely hoping he understood my point regarding lost value now and in my families future with the cows eating the plants. I would hate to have to follow through with fencing all 15 acres just to make good neighbors. Thanks for your suggestions, humor, and time again.

Not sure it's possible to keep cows out without a fence. I've never heard of that. They're going to roam.
If you want a fence, Wisconsin law requires each of you to build half of the fence. You're required to build the half to your right as you face it from your property.
