I would avoid Racine and parts of Kenosha.

What's happened to Kenosha? I knew it was considered Sin City USA because of the amount of crime based on the amount of people. I moved away from Kenosha in the summer of 1993. I do miss the summers there! Winter was brutal!

I've lived in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin my entire life Couldn't ask for a better place. We're close to Milwaukee, Chicago, and culture. Have beautiful surroundings, great people and diverse lifestyles. In my younger days, lived in many other states---none can compare! Although we do have SNOW to contend with during the winter months. But the seasons are beautiful and a welcome change. I have to agree with holt4fam. Elkhorn is a nice small town also, as well as Burlington. None of these communities exceed 9,000 population.

I lived in both Sheboygan and Port Washington, and I would recommend Port Washington to someone with a family who wanted a small town type of community that's close to the "big city" (Milwaukee) if you want it. Granted, the real estate values have gone up considerably, but it's still a nice town.
Sheboygan - avoid it like the plague. It's still very much a "closed community", and if you're an outsider, you'll never be accepted by the locals. Before we left there in the late 80s to move to Port, there were the beginnings of gang problems, too.
One note of warning: Wisconsin's property taxes are horrendous.
However, for the most part, the quality of life there is very good, and has no equal to anywhere else I have lived.

Hudson, WI has so many things that make it an excellent place to live. You are only 15-20 minutes away from all of the benefits the "Big Cities" have to offer. You can still attend all of the Professional Sports games, MN Wild, Timberwolves, etc. Take your boat out on the St. Croix River, travel in and out of the MSP airport with only a 25-30 minute drive ... the list is endless! It takes the same amount of time to travel from Hudson, WI to many places in the twin cities as it does from Woodbury, MN due to easy highway access. Hudson is growing like mad and continues to grow with many new shops, restaurants, etc being built.

Tomah is a nice small town near Fort McCoy. There are other small towns around, West Salem is another nice small town with a population of about 3000 if I remember right. Sparta is another local small town but to me, looks a little run down. Maybe it was just the area I drove through. HTH

Wisconsin (Swiss Cow Skin)
That's so funny DaBears. I"m originally from Kenosha, been in Mississippi since 1993, sitll get asked to slow down on my conversation, and I still say "you guys" instead of the southern "y'all". I have picked up saying "coke" for "soda" or "pop" and have lost the speaking though the nose. I do miss the good ole cheese. By the way, I was big into the Chicago Bears when I lived up there, still have my old Walter Payton shirt. Don't get to see them on T.V. anymore. What's up w/ that? The Cowboys and Falcons, blah!
Ok, I know my subject is cheesy. (pun intended)
