Question Spiders and Creepy Crawlies in Wisconsin. Recommendation on where to live in WISC?

I've been reading throughout this forum regarding states with the least amount of spiders and creepy crawlies. Is it true that Wisconsin doesn't have a spider problem? Nothing dangerous except for your daddy long legs or tiny spiders. We were going to move down South but have read that they have some really bad bug problems down there.

My family is from Germany and I just don't remember seeing anything big enough to remember that would scare the buh-jesus out of us, like here in the states. I really need your help in answering this question. We want to move out of the northeast.

We would also like to receive suggestions on a great place to live in Wisconsin. A town or city with low crime-great schools-friendly people(not like people from the northeast) and naturally bug free, that we could provide a great quality of life to raise our family.

PLEASE DON'T POST ANY PICTURES OF SPIDERS OR BUGS, like we ran across on a few informative post. We couldn't continue reading the post and probably missed out on some valuable info. Thank you to all who might reply to our post.

I don't think there are any human threatening spiders besides Black Widows. There are big bug eating spiders that like to build webs in Garages and Barns. I've seen their bodies get up to 3/4 inch long or so. There are also the harmless brown ones that like to zoom across the floor in the house once in a while.

I hate spiders, too. I can assure you there are some bugs, but nothing significant or large, or too scary....Daddy Long Legs aren't scary creatures...centipedes aren't real pleasant to see, but they aren't prevalent, and they run fast...on all those little legs!.
Seriously, there is not much in the way of bugs here, and none that you couldn't crush if you wanted to!

Your question about where to live is too generic to give you a specific response, because there are wonderful towns all over the state that fit the criteria of "low crime-great schools-friendly people(not like people from the northeast) and naturally bug free".
Are you looking for Rural, or near or in, a large city, near water or a lake (small or great); forest or farm area, shopping or restaurant choices or not, parks, outdoor activities, etc, etc.? Do you need to be near an airport? Employment options? Because Wisconsin has it all...just not all in one place!

Towns/areas I personally like are Green Bay/Oshkosh/Manitowoc areas, Eau Claire, lots of the towns all around Milwaukee, Port Washington, Madison and the surrounding area, Lake Country (Delafield/Oconomowoc, etc), or north like Hayward/Bayfield, etc.....I could go on and on, there are so many good choices.

Good Luck.

This is weird to see a question like this related to spiders and having Wisconsin in the same sentence. I've only dealt with a few spiders that were nasty in my entire life. We do have plenty of snakes though, alot around here since we're at the bluffs, Wisconsin River, Fox River, and tons of marshes. I don't mind snakes as they're pretty timid. I think you'll find the whole state to be pretty safe.
Honestly I don't even put any thought into checking for snakes or spiders. I just found a snake the other day at our farm. It must've been three feet long. It could've been smaller, either way I scared my grandma and got an earful.lol

Thanks Catfeathers and Josh. We're not too familiar with Wisconsin but have heard so many wonderful things about Madison. The only thing that I'm not too keen on is the fact that Madison is an extremely far left progressive city. At least that is what I've read. We like to be near a big city but not necessary to be in the middle of it. What is important is a very safe neighborhood-low crime-"bugless"- everything within driving distance. Were looking for climate and landscape similiar to what we have in Germany. Not looking to live out in the boondies and I'm certainly not hands on enough to be a farmer. Those guys work too hard. Would probably starve to death if I had to farm.

I'm leaning towards Madison or something similiar in size that is a little more independent and/or conservative.

Madison has a great farmers market. The lakes, the one way streets I love it.

I want to know what do you mean when you say Madison is far left progressive city? Please interpret that?

I read on one of the posts as well as numerous studies that says Madison happens to be one of the top most left progressive(liberal) cities in the country. That's not coming from me. It's just what I've read, and ran across while researching.

I maybe said that wrong. Define Left Progressive to me: your definition.

Madison is fairly "conservative" in some parts of town, and the whole city would be far from a "leftist" city by European standards, imho. It's a great place to live, especially the near West Side of Madison.

If you want something that reminds you of home, Milwaukee and the suburbs might be for you. Up until well into the 20th century, there were more German language speakers and newspapers than there were English speakers and newspapers. It was called the "Deutsches Athen" and German culture was very important to the development of the city.

Many immigrants arrived here fleeing the Revolution of 1848. They set up the breweries, tanneries and basic industries that made Milwaukee develop and thrive.

Regarding bugs, all of Wisconsin has relatively high humidity, so to me, mosquitoes are the most offensive bugs we have in the state!
