Default West vs. East -- Wisconsin

What are the best things about eastern WI? How do they compair to what western WI has to offer? Which do you prefer, and why? Is it a difference of people, environment, or social climate? Just curious.

I prefer western WI myself. I love the geography of the bluffs, anywhere else in the state feels flat in comparison. As for the people, I have found those in the western side to be more laid back and friendly.

For some reason I don't get to the western part of the state as much as I do the eastern. I like the landscaping of the west more that the east. What a vast difference.

Having traveled both extensively I can't say I prefer one over the other. The Prairie Du Chein area on up to LaCrosse is wonderful indeed. However I wouldn't part with the lakeside nor Door County either. And of course the Northern portion is simply stunning with its clean running rivers and lakes and forest. All I can say is "its all good". Not real fond of course of anything south of Milwaukee however. It just starts to get nice when you head north of there.

I was going to say the exact same thing.

The landscape of western Wisconsin is a lot more rugged than the eastern part. However, the vast majority of Wisconsin's population lives in the eastern part of the state, with the largest concentrations being along Lake Michigan (from Kenosha all the way up to Green Bay).

A lot more of Wisconsin's "Lake Country" is on the eastern half of the state; on the other hand, much of western Wisconsin is driftless and consequently it's one of the few interesting scenic areas in the Midwest.

I'm more at home in the NE (defined as N. of Manitowoc, and E. Of I-39 all the way to the UP line.)

It's just a prejudice gained from that being where my wife is from, but I also think the outdoor resources are the best/most diverse, and the local population more interesting.
