Looking 4 Current Poll Results; Would you vote to Legalize Gay/Lesbian Marriage?
Just wondering what the constituents of our Governor Doyle would vote for if a ballot measure was introduced to legalize gay/lesbian marriage. Would you support the measure, and why? Would you argue against the measure, and why? Do you know any same sex couples who you think this would benefit? Thank you in advance for your opinions and time.

I would support an initiative to legalize gay marriage 100%. Back in 2004, Wisconsin, like numerous other states, added a stupid amendment to the state constitution that defines marriage as a union between one man and one woman. As I'm sure you're already aware, today August 3, the State of Wisconsin will begin granting civil-unions/domestic partnerships to same-sex couples. While not technically marriage, it's a start, and IMO helps get us closer to real equality. To me, civil unions and domestic partnerships stink of the whole "separate but equal" doctrine that was supposed to be done away with in the late 60's.

That amendment was appalling and should be repealed. There should be no ban on gay marriage. And yes, I do know a few gay couples although I don't know if they would be interested in getting married at this time.

Ban, and I admit I don't have a good answer besides my religious beliefs.

But we live in a secular country, why should your religious beliefs effect the lives of other people who may not subscribe to them?

I'm ok with legalizing same-sex marriage as long as ALL marriage rules apply - being responsible for the other's debt, divorce laws, tax laws, etc. Have to take the bad with the good.

Even in a secular society people get to use religion to inform their sociopolitical beliefs. People of all political stripes do it. Just ask the abolitionists and leaders of the civil rights movement.

Don't legislate your personal religious beliefs on the rest of us.
The founders of this country separated church and state and it should stay that way.

Wrong! Church and State is separation of government institutions and religious institutions be separate(IE: doing business with each other) it doesn't say anything about NO GOD. What you're referring to is secularism not separation of church and state. This is a common misconception.
